Can someone please teach me Japanese? It's been on my mind for two years and Duolingo isn't helping. Any native speakers willing to help a young otaku out? :blobpensive::aww::blobtired:

Might I suggest becoming a translator? Its actually really good practice to do on the side after your personal studies.

I found that the things I studied tended to stick a lot better when I was actively looking up kanji and their English equivalents to convey the stories properly to people.

Translating to learn Japanese might be putting the cart before the horse, but it worked for me. ;)

what really helped me with grammar was an app called LingoDeer, it's better than Duolingo by miles as it gives you more information but not as tiring as reading a grammar book.

And about kanji, there are apps too but in my experience that's better with books, more specifically the Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course, as it gives you an effective order of learning and mnemonics which ease the memorization of kanjis. Also, it includes vocabulary up to the last kanji studied (it doesn't use kanji you haven't studied). I really appreciate the vocabulary as it helps me remember the kanji because I'm using them from the start instead of learning them by isolation as any other methods.

Tip: Learn kana. Practice by writing it.
Genki is a good book if you wanna learn Japanese seriously. And use anki.

But yeah, you can only start learning once you know the hiragana and katakana

Also, web novels aren't really great for learning day-to-day vocab. I'd suggest watching SOL Jdramas and animes that don't have much fantasy.
There are some great podcasts out there too!
Listening and reading as much Japanese as you can really help improve it.
