News Centinni: Behind the Scenes

From what I know it could be that or the other way around, in my experience, those company tend to get some messages from the people who wants to translate the work under them. So its like, buying the license from the company so it's legal for you to work on the project. So it's mostly them who paid the money to the company. Which is obviously expensive. Not sure about CN novels cuz the author seems pretty chill about fan translation but, if it's KR novels I think taking this matter they probably gonna go contact the said company for either permission to translate or buy the license through email first before discussing further by meeting up to make a deal or contract. :/

About the company who wants the fan translation to become official, hmmm.. I'm not sure, because from what I see most of them will just drop some C&D to the translation, giving a warning, which sounds like 'if u want to work on this, pls contact our company to discuss matters further'. It's mostly the translation group who's reaching out the company.

 

This will never work with CN companies because they are greedy as fuck. They won't sell your license. They want you to work your ass off for them. I am just curious that do those CN translators who work for this group actually own their work, and will they get paid if they work are sold to the original publisher.

 

I'm not sure what the general procedure is but going off what I know of my company though, they'll contact the group (because individual translators of the group are basically tools in their mind) or outright ignore them and just get someone to redo the translations. If they do get the translations from the fan group, it'll basically be a Party A will hand over files of X to PartyB and delete all translations of X on their sites. No payment of any sort by or to anyone. What happens to the translation after will be only be known to the internal employees of the company as the comic I handed over to my current employer has yet to be published despite them having the 200+ chapters I did.

PS. In my case, I had author's permission who then forgot about me until years later when I recontacted them to confirm being able to translate the new VIP chapters (they were free before) and the author's weibo admin connected me to current rights owner. The rights purchase was made just a few months after I had gotten permission, so these companies def don't care about fan translations.

 

What you said might be true, but fortunately not all CN companies do that. I have an acquaintance who's working for stuff like this, it was a hobby at first but when they tried to contact the company, they succeed, and was welcomed too. They could even manage to get in touch with the said author and discuss further about stuff like the characters or the plot. It depends on the company, they could even use your skill and ask u to lengthen your contract to work with them for another project. Now looking back at it, it's sad that I didn't get the chance to ask further about their agreement though, because my interests weren't really in the said field, but more in the KR ones. Hahaha.

 

JP get just DMCA-ed out of existence because there is a market for light novels. I buy electronic books on BookWalker, I know I support the author and publishers. WW supports the authors too, I don’t remember what translators get after the project is finished though. Centinni? No. Considering the translator was called money hungry for asking where the promised amount of money went to... they won’t do good things even if they reached a point of becoming official translation group/publishers, disregarding the fact that they put quantity over quality.

Idk man, I'm out of ideas of how else to tell Centinni their bs is still obvious as day and they need to apologise without repeatedly side tracking to push them to respond and come back on topic. Spam them in their comments or by tagging them? That's rather bad behaviour and honestly shouldn't be done because it'll be akin to cyberbullying/malicious attacks.

I mean, I guess we can talk about how for all they say they're paying a lot (ish) for the website, it's so crappy that it constantly crashes? I can't even go through 4 clicks without encountering an error that's either because server full or it's just a bad site. Which makes me question just how do readers get on their site to read and donate. And also, I couldn't actually find their patreon link on the website, just ko-fi. I had to google it up.

 

I mean, at least according to the full exposé that this person posted, they look like little bitches. I could at least understand them if this tinni person, in particular, was like 14 y.o, because no way a reasonable adult can behave like this (even if it's on the internet) and believe they are something like small business owners hustling for the bread or some shit lol. Surely, if you're gonna act like a dumbass and try to publicly shame someone on the internet you should be able to take people talking shit back to you.
On the other hand though, they should at least respond to this person, whether it is debunking them or owning to their actions. Who knows, some of this drama can be just fabrications or things taken out of context and these people may not be that bad, they might be just regular assholes instead of really annoying assholes.

Let's put aside the issue of the taxes for the time being. (Honestly, just pick a thread to discuss it fully. I can't be bothered to go through 4 threads of your tax issues, Centinni - and of your very inappropriate timing of dark porn during this tea.) We all know you have something fishy going on with your taxes.


I don't know how you have managed to survive so long on this system. Maybe since many of your translators aren't as concerned about their pay, despite your assurances? Or maybe some are, but you only tell them that you're experiencing bank problems and that they shouldn't be greedy. I don't know. Don't take it personally, this is just a wild guess. I only have your screenshots and the big names' comments to go off of. If you really need help, then get some help in either Tinni's "OFFICIAL Centinni Statement" thread or Shichi's "A reply from Centinni" thread (seriously, why two threads - do you think any press is good press? I mean, people certainly will keep reading your translations, but maybe now through an aggregate site or with adblock on just to spite you).


But I digress. Will Centinni ever really apologize fully for their "actions of anger" towards the OP?

Don't think that you can shirk responsibility with a simple "We apologize to lanji/Kitket." State what you did fully. When your guardian or other authoritative figure (a kindergarten teacher, for example) asks, "What did you do wrong? Do you know what you did wrong?" You should say it clearly. A "I was wrong, but she/he was wrong too!" is not clear enough to show that you have truly realized where you went wrong. It does not truly show that you have any sincere will to repent, nor does it show that you actually know what you did wrong and that you have began to think about how to address the issues properly so that future translators do not undergo the same harassment.

Tinni and Shichi, dearies, you already do not have as great a standing as OP on the side of reason. 12 pages of this thread, and OP only commented twice: once to start this thread, and another to remind others that the translators in Centinni are still young. I'm more inclined to stand on OP's side. OP provided a clear timeline, and their message gets to the point - screenshots, context given, and actual calculations. On the other hand, what have you given in your multiple statements, replies, and announcements? A bunch of words that are summed up with "there were miscommunications and both parties are at fault."


I call bs. Take action. Show your sincerity with actions, not just empty words. We're not here for the tea - we want someone who represents the translation community to own up to their mistakes. Your actions reflect the rest of us, and sadly you have already gotten a few translators to leave the community, perhaps even permanently.



How hard can it be to just delete or edit your announcements? As of just now when I checked your website, the "note" about OP's leaving is still up. Do you need a poster to go in and help you? I can do it for you for 10% of the ad revenue you created from people visiting that site for a better understanding of this whole drama. Wait, did I say 10%? I meant 100%. Sorry, I missed a 0 there. I can even help you edit your grammar mistakes and logical fallacies. That will be another 20%, so I suppose you owe me your ad revenue and the money that you didn't pay your staff since they are still volunteers during the ongoing pandemic.


If you really do insist on keeping the announcement part 1 and part 2, then link it to the relevant NUF threads (Kitket's thread and Centinni's two replies/statements) as an acknowledgement of your past mistakes and address how you will change for the better. But I highly doubt you would take this route considering how you STILL cannot make a proper reply to this thread. (Yes Centinni, porn comments and attempts to throw the blame on your dad, another group, even people drinking tea at your expense, do not constitute as proper replies.)


I'm getting tired of seeing the same things being pointed out but continuously getting overlooked. 12 pages on this thread, Centinni. More than the 2-3 pages on your two statements and replies. 48 hours now of this drama since the thread was posted. Get to it. Show us some tangible results.


Centinni, my dudes, get your act together. Man, if you have time to ask for smut projects and manage an Indonesian translation site (and Russian translation site), you have time to apologize to OP properly - which would take less time than fixing up your tax issues.

Glad to finally be able to see your site without it crashing on me constantly. I wish I didn't test it out though because man, now I notice the Papyrus font used in your "hiring" image (my eyesssssss) and another round of rereading through your statement on there leads me to a strong urge to take up a red pen and start pointing out every single mistake made (which seems to average around 3 per paragraph).

Can you please fix the grammar mistakes? Starting with the title of the post ("Possessing Nothing and it's translator"), because actual grammar. Otherwise, the title reads "Possessing Nothing and it is translator," which--wait, actually, don't change it. It makes more sense than the rest of your statement. Though, I was serious about the 200% payment rate before for sacrificing my braincells and helping you edit your statement to make the bs less obvious (well, maybe) .
