I don’t get why people keep suggesting other shitty webnovels when asked for recommendations. You see it all the time on reddit. I personally would recommend Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Reverend Insanity is inspired a lot by it. So many references, and phrases taken from that novel.

The author seems to enjoy Smiling Proud Wanderer too. Many references to it.

imagine this got adapted into a good anime, especially the perseverance gu scene would be amazing to see

 

On the one hand it would be amazing to see a good adaption because there's so many great moments, even just the book 1 finale is pretty hype (though the "coincidences" and luck and fate feel pretty BS before knowing about how heaven's will and fate gu works).

On the other hand I'd rather not see yet another anime adaption destroying a favorite novel...


And obviously all the brutal scenes would get censored maybe even removed? Like burning those two twin children from the Bai clan (not same Bai as Bai Ningbing), feeding some girl to a bear, eating monkey brains while they're alive, etc. etc.

Not that I read it for those scenes and I felt like some parts were unnecessary, but still. Honestly the more I think about it the more I think the anime would probably get ruined beyond recognition...

 

really disappointing that detailed novels like this with lots of character depth aren't appreciated, guess i go back to reading about racist cultivators that despise anyone who isn't Chinese lmao, don't really mind that but its the face slapping that makes it hard to find a good novel

 

After you read something like RI it becomes hard to read generic cultivation novels.
I personally can't really do it anymore, it feels too disconnected from reality and just stupid, you can see clearly that lacks any sort of depth or meaning and how brainless the people of the world are, MC having an aura that lowers everyone IQ by 100.
Then there's the way most of them are written to just be a filler because o Qidian method of monetization, which in turn creates these things like generic young master number for generic face slapping scene x.
I hope the ban gets lifted, but knowing how censorship is still a thing heavily enforced in China it's just a dream.
