I've read quite a few of these since they had some interesting and maybe even original concepts but there doesn't seem to be any follow-up chapters for most of them even after months after their initial release. I'm guessing it has something to do with publisher testing the waters or something similar of sorts? Or is it that these novels have a few dozen chapters release in original language to begin with?

Especially the sequal to "A Record of a Mortal's Journey To Immortality", "Immortal World Arc", got me quite interested but it hasn't received any updates in almost half a year. What's the deal with that?

Another aspect of Webnovel hosted stories is that Novel Updates only tracks free chapters, not the ones you have to pay for.

One reason would be because of trial read. Basically the novels aren't making Webnovel much profit, so their budget has been reduced. That's why they have been dropping unprofitable novels left and right. So, they only want to invest their money and resource in what they think would be popular/net them money. To do this, their content editors choose a novel and release it 60 chaps for trial read, and consider the various results they get from the trial, like no. of readers, no. of paying readers, on whether to proceed or not.
Or it could be as the users above had said, and it's simply a premium novel/paywalled novel, and NU doesn't list paywalled chapters.
