From what I remember I have been aware of traps way before trans people. In fact you cannot even characterize traps as trans since they are still male and usually get when called a girl
Please explain to me how a word ‘trap’ meaning to catch or to deceive can be offensive to a society? And second of all I’ve never heard the trans-community protesting over ‘trap’
Now, my fellow Daoist, that is not very family-friendly. So I will have to ask you to kindly delete your comment and reflect over your hate-filled life if you want to ascend a tribulation properly.
Some people out there are struggling to live and facing some hardships, like Covid-19, hunger, disaster, etc. And here we are seeing some people making out a trivial stuff into a big deal, by threatening of commiting suicide, what a f*ckin moron.
i saw this first blow up a week or two ago. the mods had to have expected the subreddit would flip it's shit with a ridiculous rule like this. hell, i even saw comments from LGBT people who hated the rule change because it was BS and drew flak onto them. As far as i'm aware, i think i saw mention once of an alternate subreddit for animemes not ruled by power mad idiots. edit: i still dont even see how "trap" is a slur. so many commenters actually mocked that the mods' preferred 'alternate terms' were much more like slurs than "trap". "trap" doesnt even fit as a description of trans people. all it describes is cross-dressing trolls edit 2: yeah, shitting on their own community really was the height of stupidity for the mods. then again, even i've heard rumblings for weeks and months of the heights of retardation that the animemes mods have done over time.... and i dont even frequent the subreddit. BIG EDIT: Go to r/goodanimemes. DO NOT GO to r/animememes as it's reportedly run by several of the former r/animemes modes and includes the woke rules. EDIT 3: Reportedly (though unconfirmed as i havent been able to find the relevant comment), the vast majority (or totality) of the doxxing and threats were made by asshole(s) who werent event part of r/animemes or any part of the anime community. EDIT 3.5: I found relevant comments here where it's mentioned that the doxxer was just your usual hardcore bigot who used the situation to screw around and pour petrol on a bonfire and that they didnt give a shit about reddit or anime. EDIT 4: Some comments about the actions of the bad, troll mods and their stupidity. EDIT XXXX: so many edits REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
'Trap' isn't offensive. People who scream it is I would call, for lack of a better word, stupid. In the first palce, traps & trans are two different things. Yes, there are obvious similarities and there is a definite argument that SOME transpeople can be identified as real-life traps. But as far as I know there are very few traps in anime/manga/novels that could be considered as trans. Actually, the only place I recall ever coming across trans-stuf in the anime community would be on a certain NH----i site with 6-digit numbered doujins... So, no. I do not think the word trap shoud be considered 'offensive' just because a vocal minority (who for so far as we know may not even be part of anime community) loudly screams it is.
I find it offensive you see the Trap word as a slur. You should stop calling it a slur because you are hurting my feelings It's not about banning a word. It's about trying to impose their shitty opinion down an entire community's throat I fucking hate SJWs
when this first blew up a few weeks ago, i actually saw comments making people aware of posts in SJW subs where SJWs were bragging about getting that rule changed and laughing about how people hated the new woke rules and tyranny.
I should mention, some mods went to other subreddits to badtalk the animemes community. Trap word is offensive hur dur >Proceeds to call otakus weebs, bigots, neckbeards, pedophiles bla bla bla
Now that's funny because I'd prefer being called a weeb than otaku. It's really cringy to even read the word otaku lol
hah~ if this cat was da administrator level this cat will kick that mod who threat to suicide, yes such disaster trouble maker only bring more trouble if stay up on the rank~ on organizations that one threatening existence~ more so use tracking system then put that threat mod to jail or prison under report disturbing general hmm peace? if more pop up then it mean total clean up on administration level any moderator who pro that suicide mod also kick out, no mercy~ bashing community that build foundation for the forum mean asking for to be closed~ meh~ anyway trap used as slur if animemes problem not pop up this cat never know it used that way~
I just don't see the term trap as a problem. It's never targeted at anime characters who are trans. It's always used for guys who get mistaken for girls. Either because they dress up in female clothing, or just look and act girly enough that people think they're girls. point it, the characters were designed as a trap in the literal sense. You expect one thing, then get hit with reality. As for girls who dress and act like guys? that's a reverse trap. Just like there's Harem and you think of a group of girls around a guy, reverse harem is a group of guys around a girl. Why is it like this? probably because when there's real gender bender, they never call them trans or traps. And in the few anime that have people who identify as the opposite gender but still have their birth sexual organs, tend to have them as tragic side characters and not gag traps.
Honestly, when I heard of this whole drama, I couldn't really believe my ears. Like, as a transwoman myself, it just baffled me that the mods actually banned the word trap, like... Geez, why? It's a slang very specific to the anime community that talks specifically about male characters that identify as males and are either shown in feminine clothes or have a feminine appearance. It has nothing to do with transgender characters, much less hate against the actual transgender people IRL. I mean, I never saw anyone referring to Hoshikawa Lily from Zombieland Saga as a trap for one, much less to a RL person. That just doesn't happen as far as I'm aware. I have just never seen the term used offensively and I have never felt offended when I saw it being used either. So... To me, this whole drama is pretty nonsensical, the term trap is fine.
reminds me of the gaming press shit-talking about gamers as sexist neckbeards in their effort to look enlightened in front of mainstream society. The main issue IS the mods thinking they own the subreddit, but I am rather interested the arguments around "traps" being an offensive term. I think most trans people find it offensive, but a lot of them don't mind it. I think the big difference is anime lovers have always used this term to mean something different than reality since it's just an anime trope : fiction. But because this fiction is very close to reality and can confuse non-anime people about what trans people actually are (aka, not trying to "trap" assumed het guy into sex), I think that's where people's anger comes in. Here's a quote from someone's argument about this that I found to be very interesting : "The problem is, in the current worldwide climate, crossdressers (including cosplayers) are lumped in with trans people as essentially the same thing. Using the term trap – which obviously has negative connotations – on a large scale will inevitably lead to it being used for trans people. Whether that makes it a moral responsibility to avoid it, is weirdly enough a whole linguistic and moral debate, so to each their own I guess. As noted, it's used in fetishistic and cosplay scenarios. Trans people do not want to be associated with that. In addition, it's also used not even in necessarily fetishistic or pornographic scenarios to simply refer to crossdressers and such, when they successfully "trick" others. Not a fan of this idea, and the word itself, because it makes them out to be deceivers, when that's not necessarily true." Basically, we're under fire for mainstream society being too stupid to understand the differences. And ambiguous wording of memes like "are traps gay?" doesn't help (when the actual meaning of that is more like "does getting a stiffy from crossdressers make me gay?")
