Its strange that Chinese authors believe that cronus is the 1st thing that existed in greek mythos. I've seen several Chinese novels dealing with time that insisted on that fact. Even if you didn't know Chaos the actual 1st thing to exist, you'll know Gaia who gave birth to Cronus.

Are we talking about the god of time, or the titan that fathered the Olympic gods then promptly ate them save for Zeus?

I had a derp. I thought there was Chronus and Cronus, one being the god of time and the other being the father to the Olympic gods. They are the same being.

No, they are different different. There is Chronus the god of time that give birth Chaos and there is Cronus the offspring of Gaia and Uranus.

Those authors are actually right. Chronus with an h.

You sure? From what I know Chaos always existed, it had no beginning
And from it came Gaia, Tartarus, Eros and the other Ancient Gods.

It depends on the source. From one of the source, Chaos came from Chronus.

Okay, after a bit of searching I’ve found that some are saying Chronus, god of time, fathered three sons: Chaos, Aether, and Erebus. Chaos birthed ‘existence‘ (the universe and everything within). Then Gaea (Earth) produced/birthed Cronus.
Others are saying that Cronus is the titan-god of time that fathered the Olympic gods.

In all likelihood there are different interpretations of the same mythology; I would compare it to how there are two very similar religious ideologies that only really differ based on if they believe in the existence of Jesus.
Edit: this isn’t to say that they’re the same ideology, but that their differences stem from a singular point.

It seems chronus is father of gods, birthed oceanus, then oceanus birthed chronus, who birthed gaia, who birthed chronus(also cronus), who fathered Zeus, who birthed, chronus again

Well, greek mythology is basically a lot of separate mythologies mashed together, it isn't exactly strange that there are contradicting versions.

In the first place, Chinese authors often get elementary math and science wrong in their web novels... Why would you expect them to be super well informed on ancient greek mythology trivia? They probably just copied it from the government-sponsored version of wikipedia which just happened to have that version of the story. Mystery solved.
