My group started translating a munpia novel. In just one day, the company contacted us through discord and asked us to stop translating (how the hell are they so fast?). They said they would allow us to officially license it and were willing to negotiate. It seems they have done this with other groups before. Of course, we're glad to license it but we are a small group without much experience. What offers should I put forward? Also, how do I make revenue from this novel. We hadn't planned on asking for pay for this novel but it'd be a different case if it's licensed...
Are you sure it was someone from Munpia who contacted you, and not a publisher which owns the novel and distributes it via Munpia? And as said above, it can't hurt to make sure they're legitimate if they've messaged you through Discord! Maybe ask them to email you (they should do so from an @munpia.com email address).
They asked me to stop TLing through discord but wanted to discuss the terms through gmail. Yes, it was someone with a munpia.com tag.
I don't think you should disclose someone's email like that, better PM the person you want to ask directly.
Just my opinion but if you're not planning to go pro, just drop the novel and translate something else. Or you can try the grey zone, as in it's "not copyright in my country" if applicable.
The grey zone is very scummy and rare tho as a lot of places don't have good regulations specific to online content and regions. On general, I do agree. Go pro or drop it. They're either trying to recruit you or you'll have to pay a significant sum.
