Can you add the option to eliminate genres in addition to the option to pick genres for the stories you search for?

I mean, if I do a general search, based on language and rating, what I mostly get are Yaoi and Shounen Ai novels which I don't care for. Sometimes (mostly), I'm (pretty sure many people are) not searching for something specific but I do know what I'm not interested in.

Click once for green , click twice for red, thrice for clear. Red is a -remove.

That option is already there. In advanced search, just double click the genre that you want to exclude

    Yes you can

There is exclude tag below your wanted genre, you just have to select any tag you don't want

Me, who just woke up, read the title from the main page as “Filtering unwanted genes in advance” and was quite concerned about eugenics and designer babies for a moment. Glad it was just my brain doing stupid things from bleariness.

I think others have already answered your question pretty well.

If you mean by clicking a tag on a novel's page, then no. Not directly.

But you can use Series Finder:
    1. Exclude a genre(s).
    2. Include a tag.
And you'll see what you wanted.

If you want to automatically hide genres from your search (tag or otherwise), you can hide them manually by creating uBlock Origin filters:
    Code:
    novelupdates.com##div.search_main_box_nu:has(a:has-text(/^Action$/))
    upload_2020-9-14_19-32-48.png
    This one disables "Action".
If you want to hide multiples change it to:
    Code:
    ##div.search_main_box_nu:has(a:has-text(/^(Action|Fantasy|Slice of Life)$/))
    So the template is:
    Code:
    ##div.search_main_box_nu:has(a:has-text(/^(1st genre|2nd genre|3rd genre|etc)$/))
    upload_2020-9-14_19-33-35.png
This will hide them from all search results (I think), if you wanna see them again without removing the filters, just disable cosmetic filters on NU.
    upload_2020-9-14_19-35-30.png [/code]
