    No carpet.

    Pro Carpet:
    - Feels Soft
    - Is usually a bit warmer than the floor

    Con Carpet:
    - Is a lot harder to clean
    - Stains stay forever
    - Bad for people allergic to dust
    - You need an electronic sign saying that your back soon, the temperature is cool enough, etc. or people will break your window to rescue that poor little fellow out of your car.

I personally think it is a good idea to get rid of your carpet.

Carpet collects dust and moisture. There's always the worry about spilling anything on it. Plus it looks "old and dirty" anytime you move some stationary object to reveal a "clean spot". Desk chairs are harder to roll on carpet.

Wood floors are easier to clean and you can just blow the dust bunnies out of the back corners. There's more design options with an small area rug.

Depends on what carpet you actually have and your clumsiness level. Hardwood, stone, or concrete floors HURT if you trip and fall without a good carpet there to help. That being said if you carpet is older than 10 years, it should probably be tossed regardless and you should get a replacement if you actually want one.

How do you even clean a carpet?

I would probably die from my allergies if I stay near one for an extended period of time.

I would say it depends on whether you live in a cold area or not. If you don't, get rid of the carpet, but if you do a carpet would be better. Uncarpeted floors can get really cold during colder months, and it isn't fun standing on ice cold floors.

Vacuum regularly and there are carpet cleaners. If you don't want to rent or get a carpet cleaner you can always scatter some baking soda on the carpet and let it sit about 10 minutes before vacuuming. I have horrible allergies and live in a house that is fully carpeted, but they don't kill my allergies.

Seems some of you guys dont know how to clean a carpet..

    Heres how you do it:
    1. Find dirty location
    2. Buy carpet cleaner and vacuum specifically for carpet cleaning
    3. Spray spot with carpet cleaner
    4. scrub spot with sponge
    5. Vacuum over spot slowly
    6. once area clean let dry (dont put towels or anything over it)
    7. If dog pee was the problem; Get urine spray from petco and spray it on the spot you cleaned at
    8. If it was cat pee then i recommend ripping out the spot and using new carpet.

If you have dog pee stains on your carpet, you're probably breaking a few laws.

Depends on the type of carpet you got, is it the “glued to the cement” floor type, or is it a big square piece of thing that you can roll up?
If it’s the glued type- they often have mold under them at some point (general humidity, bad insulation, spill a drink).

Secondly- the rug type carpet. Is it natural? (Synthetic material vs wool type materials) Does it have short or long “hair” thickness?

My family’s place has a carpet which my parents got about 20 years ago and it has medium “hair” length, it’s large, about 3x4 m (never measured though, just guessing that two queen size beds could fit on it), I vacuum it at least once a week in winter (we got cats). My mum would vacuum every day or every two days.
When my cats throw up on it I used Vanish (pink bottle spray) to remove stains after a wipe with damp cloth.
I took this carpet 3 or 4 times to dry cleaners myself, not sure how many times my mum took it there.

dry cleaning a large carpet is expensive, but it protects it and prevents mites etc.

by the way, even a glued on carpet can be professionally cleaned.

lastly I roll up that carpet in summer as my cats shed so much fur.... that would not help it stay clean even if I were to vacuum every eight hours.

we got tiles on the floor, and it gets cold in winter, so having a carpet is really cozy. Also carpet helps with sound insulation (like if you want to sleep but you family wants to watch tv etc)

edit, by the way, the dry cleaner lady told me not to use those vanish type products on the carpets, sweaters, etc which are made of natural materials. She said I’d make a hole with them in my clothes. But I still use it. It’s better when clean, no? Carpet is still alive. My sweater does have a hole, but I doubt it’s from vanish spray...

Tatami requires so much maintenance and cleaning... I looked into it. Well the real tatami, in any case. Fake ones are easier to maintain.
