Sure! To understand it, you need some spoilers about 2nd novel anyway lol. So it should fit here too~ At end of 2nd novel (and prologue of 3rd as recap), we learn that demon ML fulfills his mission to matchmake the main couple in book 2. Demon ML is demonic butterfly who gained human form by cultivation and stuff by the way, so he's ancient -- like hundreds of years old. Since his mission's done, he has to return to the butterfly hairpin. He's sad and says goodbye to little Dou Dou, who realizes a little late something's wrong, but is smart enough to grab a strand of his hair before he goes. This lets her keep her memories of him. In book 3, Dou Dou has grown up. She never forgot him and always intended on marrying him (LOL). It's mentioned that she knew he was the best to her and that she compared every other guy she met to him (and found them very lacking). Her parents weren't very happy but had to give in and send her to a sect to become a cultivator (she was reallyyyyy determined). Little Dou Dou does her research and finds out that Uncle Butterfly is a butterfly demon who terrorized mortals waaay back. He messed with their emotions, which is why he got sentenced to matchmake people to make up for all that bad karma. Once Dou Dou is 16 and old enough to use the butterfly hairpin, she drips some blood on it and gets him out. Poor ML couldn't tell it was grown-up Dou Dou lol, he only knew he was summoned out to matchmake this new girl. Rest of the story about Dou Dou chasing down her man. XD Eventually, she does reveal that she's Dou Dou to him. He was already softening up before this, but knowing it makes him increase speed and become complete tofu. There was some development-related angst in between as he tries to get her to release him though -- he's bound to the hairpin and the person who bound him is Dou Dou's female master -- but it's minor. End of story, ML is freed and has to decide between going his own way or going to the Righteous sect where Dou Dou is a disciple and submitting himself to them. Even the female master was surprised (though she saw this coming lol), since ML didn't even take a day to decide and come over. ML is made a disciple as well under the female master and considered 'reformed' -- no more playing with people's feelings -- and he and Dou Dou are together~ Though I think Dou Dou got turned into a pheasant somehow lol. They're working on getting her back to normal.
This is actually super cute. I laughed when one of the spoilers had Butterfly demon guy telling the girl she has to take responsibility for kissing him.
