My experience has been that randomly looking through novels has a higher chance of turning a good one than listening to recommendations.

Maybe people just have shit taste? I mean, have you checked the amazon rating for twilight saga? it is rated at 4.7 out of 5 stars with millions of reviewers

 

RI may be the only one of its kind but there are good chinese webnovels that don't compete in the space space.

I personally still prefer the first 2 volumes/books. More tightly written imo. I mean, I think the author admitted in the Q&A that he changed some plot points because people guessed them.

Twilight is good for what it is. Romance porn for teenage girls. Instead of talking about shit tastes it is better to try to analyze why exactly some poorly written stories are very popular while many others are not even if they are similar or better.
Face-slapping xianxia are popular in China because they give Chinese what they want - the face slapping. Simply put, it is "dominance porn". Such novels have only one purpose - to make readers feel good by associating themselves with arrogant MC who is better than anyone else and proves it with power. It is harder for me to understand why generic slice-of-life isekai stories like Death March and current N1 in rating on novelupdates ("I Was Caught up in a Hero Summoning, but That World Is at Peace") are so popular in Japan and in the west.

the majority of good reviews are written by fanboys and tell you nothing, but the 1* reviews that are more than 1 paragraph are often true and honest.
everyone has different preferences and reading habits.

many here enjoy the trash of cn webnovel and this has been talked about here before. WW basically spread cn webnovel to the majority of people here and they started reading trash like coiling dragon and believed WW when they said that ISSTH was the best thing ever made. yet if you ask any cn reader or anyone who grew up with wuxia/xianxia/cn webnovels, they'll all say that ISSTH is mediocre at best.

and then they brought stuff like invincible (where the mc would basically find a treasure that the entire world can't find in the place he chooses to piss in and basically make money out of air *THE DREAM*), and we have red packet server (which turned into a steaming pile of shit and bashed red envelope group so hard when it's still going strong and never turned into anything besides what it initially was)

DD (which is basically naruto in china, marketed to kids and anyone would be able to recognize it as basically, tournaments, tournaments, tournaments) and then oh, we also have talisman emperor which was praised to the fucking nine heavens and beyond but turned out to be tournament emperor where they would even have a tournament outside the toilet that the MC went to shit in and then guess what? he's gonna join the tournament once he's done shitting too!

as someone who has read numerous webnovels and so many chapters of WN that i can't count, i can now safely and confidently tell you to drop a novel the second

the reason is because it's going to happen over and over again. if you like what you're reading however, keep reading, because it's going to happen over and over again.

just look at LoHP and AWE which are the best two examples. basically a cup of coffee but made by different people, in a different shop, with maybe different beans. but it's still a cup of coffee

also don't look at genres in NU besides NTR because nobody takes these shit seriously and NUF doesn't want to make harem mean an harem. basically according to the staff of NU, if you have more than 1 match on tinder, you're in the harem genre altho you've never talked to them but hey, they like you! that's' all that matters!

 

You lost me here, dude. Coiling Dragon and ISSTH are better than 99% of any other Chinese web-novels. Any examples of what you consider "not mediocre"? Or any examples of an actual xianxia that is much better than Er Gen's stories? On Chinese sites, one of the most popular and highly-rated novels is actually "A Mortal's Journey to Immortality", which is as generic as it could be. Chinese readers just have a different taste for the most part. But even then, Er Gen is a top-rated and one of the most popular writers.

Looool... DO you understand that "trash tier stuff" is more popular in China? Such stories as Martial God Asura, Peerless Martial God, Sage Monarch, Nine Star Hegemony Art, etc, are EXTREMELY popular in China and highly rated? The same goes for Mortal's Journey. The difference I pointed out is that generic xianxia with a bunch of arrogant your masters and face-slapping are more popular in China than in the west. In the west stories with actual plot and humor are better rated and more popular. It is a social difference, really. Chinese men are more conservative so they are less averse to simple stories just about face-slapping and weak-to-strong stories with shallow characters and plot, they don't care about rape and racist stuff. Unless you want to say that those stories I mentioned are much better than ISSTH and Coiling Dragon...

 

It would be nice if an anime was made and then the authorities would unban RI...

Anything by B.CMAY PICTURES is top-tier stuff. Also BL chinese anime doesn't due to the cencorship laws. BL is only allowed for things like manhua and novels.

I’m good, hope you are too. I don’t really watch Chinese TV / episodic animations, they’re kinda yuck for me...

But the movies are great. Do try Big Fish and Begonia, best 2D animated movie I ever seen (on par with Hayao Miyazaki movies) and you can try Jiang Ziya and The Legend of the White Snake (3D animated films).

 

They removed all of the BL parts out. I don't see how you can call that BL if all that is left in that adaptation are small hints and nothing else.

 

Say with Li Shi or World Alamanc Master lol. It is all BL. I do know that BL elements are usually removed but I will pass.
My Girlfriend's Boyfriend was nice with all the BL removed but it is still annoying when female characters do not "exist"

What about other novels by this author? Are they good? Something on the same level as Sword Dynasty will be nice. I enjoyed the drama still saving to binge read the novel
