Hey, I have two questions before I dive into this novel. 1. Does the mc kill people? I'm asking because leaving people you should kill alive — especially in a fantasy setting, where the strong eats the weak — kinda irks me. It just spells trouble. And this being a Japanese novel without the 'ruthless mc' tag scares me. But there is a 'character growth' tag as well, and people are praising the novel to the nine heavens. 2. Should I read the web novel or the light novel? Their start seems to be written differently.
1. Yes he does. MC is currently just an adventurer but he will someday slaughter people in wars. 2. You can read any of the two. The WN is finished but the LN is ongoing and the canon one. Just treat the WN as a rough draft.
It's decent and yes he does kill, eventually. It's less of a "butcher your way to level ups" like Xianxia and more like a murder mystery series, the interesting parts are not in the action but in the unveiling of secrets. And the fact that the series has no "happily ever after". It's harem but it doesn't shy away from the disaster that harem is in real life.
The light novel itself has been translated up until the 10th volume already. I say that you should read the polished version.
