I want to share with you a trick I learned recently that helped me stop obsessively refreshing translators' pages whenever I'm waiting for a new release. What you need is an RSS reader that periodically checks for new content and sends you push notifications when it sees an update. I'm using Inoreader app but I think you could achieve similar results with Zapier and Pushbullet (I haven't tried that). Steps to set it up: 1. Register at http://www.inoreader.com/ (the basic account is free and that's all you need) 2. Go to the page that hosts the novel you want to subscribe to. 3. Find the category page where new chapters are posted. Usually new chapter posts are 'tagged' and you can get to the category page by clicking on the tag. Example urls: http://www.wuxiaworld.com/category/btth-chapter-release/ for BTTH, https://bluesilvertranslations.wordpress.com/category/douluo-dalu/ for Douluo Dalu. 4. Append feed/ at the end of the url, e.g. http://www.wuxiaworld.com/category/btth-chapter-release/feed/. 5. Paste the URL into the Inoreader search box and click on the feed below 'Found feeds'. 6. Repeat steps 2-5 for all novels you want to track. 7. Go to preferences (gear icon in top right corner). 8. Create a bundle by navigating to Bundles -> New bundle. 9. Set the name (e.g. 'Web novels'), select 'Subscribers notification' and click the arrow next to all the feeds you want to track. 10. Create a rule that matches everything (e.g. doesn't contain word 'randomfakeword') and sends push notifications. For some reason I was able to do this step only when initially setting up the account. Afterwards it requires to upgrade the account to a paid one, $1.25/month. 11. Install the Inoreader app (links in Apps and Extensions) and log in. 12. Get a notification every time a new chapter is posted! All the polling happens on the server side, so it doesn't use up your battery or internet. -----edit---- If you have Android, an easier way is to use the Notifications for Novel Updates app, which connects to your account to get the reading list - https://play.google.com/store/apps/...unofficial.notificationsfornovelupdates&hl=en
I thnk wordpress had a similar feature. Only if you subscribed by email, some sites would send you notifications fo all novels they have on their site.
Or, go to novelupdates.com> search for chapter releases on main pages or other pages>click on the chapter you want to read> Read said chapter. Anyway, thanks for the alternative provided. I am sure it will help many people who do not want to waste their battery and internet.
"11. Get a notification every time a new chapter is posted!" If Tony had some time, energy and skills to do this. Would solve our NU problems right away. Notification for days. Just let us mark all our fav reads to get notification on the phone or PC without even opening NU.
I'm up to date with most of the novels I'm reading, so I was just visiting the main page to see if anything from my reading list has been updated. But I was doing that multiple times a day and I still sometimes missed releases for infrequently updated novels. I found the Android app, thanks, I didn't know it existed. Might give it a try one day, if my Inoreader setup fails me. Does NU have an RSS feed with only the novels you're reading? (Does it have a releases RSS feed at all?)
Yes, make a reading list: http://forum.novelupdates.com/threads/reading-list-tutorial.3120/ then you can get a RSS feed for your reading list.
Can someone please teach me how can I enable notifications for new updates in my NU reading list new releases?
You need an RSS Reader. Copy the link hiding behind the icons and add it there/subscribe to feed: Pink is list specific - you'll only see latest releases of novels on the list you copied it from. Blue is for all your lists together.
