Surprisingly, I have read this novel a while back. Is there anything specific you want to know?

Spoiler: Main Characters

Ruan Xi:

• MC - Fourth Miss Ruan. Concubine-born.
• Transmigrated into what she thought was a novel, but she was actually the original.

Wen Tingzhou:

• ML - He and the MC met in the temple and he was injured.
• MC saved him when she just "transmigrated" and confused, thinking it was just a dream, touched him all over (abdominal muscles and all) and made him promise to marry her in 3 years but MC forgot all about it.
• ML did agree, but in the original timeline, Ruan Xi married Qi YueAn and he remained alone.

Ruan Ning:

• Third Miss Ruan.
• Probably the most idiotic transmigrator who was reborn.
• Has some sort of healing abilities.
• The main antagonist of the story, I think.
• In the original timeline, she decline the marriage between her and Qi YueAn, and Ruan Xi married in her stead.
• She was idiotic and caught the eye of the Emperor after having saved the lives of many powerful men and inventing various modern things such as glass and cement. When the Emperor died, he ordered her to be buried with him.
• During that lifetime, she was jealous of Ruan Xi who was favoured by her husband (Qi YueAn).

Madam Zhang:

• Ruan Ning and Ruan Yuwen's mother.
• Antagonist.
• After Ruan Xi and Wen Tingzhou's engagement was settled, she tried to "poison" MC, when she failed and was reprimanded by Old Madam Ruan, she changed her tactics.
• She tried to feed Ruan Xi with drugs that will prevent her from being pregnant, but the MC sort of has a "gold-finger" but acted more like instinct that tells her if an "item" is harmful to her. So she failed.
• One day, Ruan Ning ate with Ruan Xi and accidentally ate the drugs as well. Ruan Ning was then forced to vomit all the food she ate. Madam Zhang stopped drugging Ruan Xi after that.

Qi YueAn:

• MC's original husband.
• Second Young Master Qi - Concubine born.
• When Ruan Ning didn't want to marry him, he was the one who actually requested Ruan Xi to take her place.
• He saw Ruan Xi during a banquet and instinctively knew they were "the same type of person"
• He acted like an uneducated wastrel.
• During this timeline, Ruan Ning agreed to marrying him, but he didn't like her.

Mu QingCi:

• Original MC.
• Transmigrator.
• Foodie.
• She became the Empress in the original timeline.
• Had the first born son of the Fourth Prince.
• She's actually not a bad person. But since Ruan Ning was reborn, Ruan Ning tried everything to be "friends" with her, and pretty much made her hated by the Fourth Prince.

Xiao Rui:

• Original ML.
• He became the Emperor after the death of the current Emperor.
• In the original timeline, he favoured Mu QingCi because she was the only one who didn't join the fight in the harem. He felt relieved being with her.

• Eldest Son of the Ruan Family, Ruan Ning's older brother from the same mother.
• After Ruan Xi engagement to Wen Tingzhou was settled he wanted to gain favour from the Wen family and acted as the go-between, helping them pass daily letters.

Master Ruan

• Ruan Xi and Ruan Ning's father.
• Very ambitious person.
• Will "sell" his daughter for benefit.

Old Madam Ruan

• Will do anything beneficial to the family.
• She helped the MC a couple of times by punishing Madam Zhang.

Su Yu & Su Zhu

• MC's loyal handmaiden

Madam Lin

• Someone who taught the MC how to behave elegantly, and the 4 arts.
• Right handwoman of the Old Madam Wen.

Old Madam Wen

• Wen TingZhou's grandmother.
• She's either the Emperor's aunt, or sister. (I forgot, sorry).
• It's because she favours the MC, that the Wen family didn't give her trouble.

Madam Wen & Master Wen

• They favour the MC.
• Madam Wen thought that her son will be alone for a lifetime. When she visited the temple to ask for divination regarding Wen Tingzhou and Ruan Xi's wedding, the Taoist said that their marriage is a match made in heaven.

I'm not sure if this is her past life, but she had a dream of being inside her mother's stomach as a baby waiting to be born. Later she went to the temple for the third time, and ask the Taoist why he didn't tell her that "she" (the MC) and "her" (the original Ruan Xi) are the same person. The Taoist said, "Congratulations on recovering your memories."

What happened in her past life?
The MC was an orphan and she died around the age of 20 due to congenital heart disease.

Why Mc sis is hell bend to marry Mc ex husband?
Ruan Xi was doted upon by her husband past (Qi YueAn), but the sis was pretty much imprisoned by the Emperor due to her healing abilities and her modern knowledge. When the Emperor died, he demanded that Ruan Ning must be buried with him. So after she was reborn, she wanted Ruan Xi's life and wanted to marry Qi YueAn.

What's with the original world story?

• Ruan Ning took advantage of her modern knowledge and healing abilities to heal a lot of powerful people and create things such as glass and cement, gather people for an expedition to sail to other countries and found high-yielding crops such as corn and potatoes.
• Mu QingCi, the original MC in the novel, gave birth to the Fourth Prince's first son. She then became the Empress and then Empress Dowager. So Ruan Ning wanted to hug her thigh.
• Ruan Xi had a leisure life of being doted upon by her husband (Qi YueAn). Lived happily.
• Xiao Rui, the Fourth Prince, became the Emperor.
• Wen TingZhou never married.

There is another doubt
That "original life" that Taiost said that Mc is original (where Ruan Ning ran away from marriage) so is this life Mc lived . I didnt get why she got another rebirth chance (if she had a happy life with Qi Yuean ) . Is it just to be with Ml?
Why did Ruan Ning ran away from marriage? Does she have another novel script ?
It's confusing as how many scripts are there.

The story is very confusing in this sense, and it gets more confusing later on. And some unanswered questions.

In my opinion, I don't believe she was reborn. Only "reincarnated" into the current timeline and not the previous one.

It was Ruan Ning who was reborn. In Ruan Ning's opinion, she accumulated "good karma" by providing modern methods that helped saved people from floods (cement) and starvation (high-yielding crops) and thus God gave her a chance to change her fate.

 

What happened to Ruan Ning in new timeline? I guess she wants both being loved and power in new timeline.

 

Spoiler: Ruan Ning - New timeline

She's still idiotic.

• The moment she was reborn, she immediately accepted the marriage between her and Qi YueAn.
• It was cancelled later on when she made a comment about Wen TingZhou cheating in the Imperial Exam, and she was imprisoned by the Emperor for 1 month to reflect.
• She didn't think twice to use her healing abilities, catching the attention of the Emperor.
• After she was sent back home, the Emperor continued to monitor her before sending an imperial edict to be his concubine.
• She kept butting heads with MC, accusing her of falsifying her pregnancy because Madam Zhang (Ruan Ning's mother) tried to give the MC anti-pregnancy drugs but failed.
• Her ending was a little different this time. After the Emperor died, he didn't demand her to be buried with him, but sent her to be alone for a lifetime with a condition that she behaves.

 

What happened to the empresses? Was she still favored by the emperor or did Ruan Ning ruined it for her?

 

Spoiler: Mu QingCi

She is the original MC of this novel.

Original Timeline: She became the concubine of the Fourth Prince who then became the Emperor, and she became the Empress.​

• This Timeline: Ruan Ning wanted to hold her thigh and became friends with her.
• Her first meeting with the Prince (Flower Banquet?) should have been "romantic" but because of Ruan Ning, she tripped on her dress while holding onto a plate of oily steamed buns. The buns went flying, and landed on the Fourth Prince's face.
• Ruan Xi and Wen TingZhou saw the whole thing. Wen TingZhou: Poor Fourth Prince.
• Second Meeting (Old Madam Wen's birthday banquet): By this time, the Ori!MC is afraid of the Fourth Prince. She met the Fourth Prince by accident while Ruan Ning was stalking him. Ruan Xi and Wen Tingzhou still saw the whole thing.
• After greeting the Fourth Prince, Ori!MC wanted to leave the place as soon as possible, but Ruan Ning pulled her arm, and she lost her balance, and grabbed whatever she could to not fall down. She ended up hugging the Prince's waist.
• Because of that event, she was labelled a scheming woman who wanted to get into the Fourth Prince's harem as all cost. Ruan Ning didn't stand up for her, and the Fourth Prince has a bad impression of her.
• When she got pregnant, Ruan Ning, who has now become a concubine of the Emperor, sent a bunch of court ladies to serve the Fourth Prince and caused her to miscarry.
• In the end, she got pregnant three times, but miscarried each time.
• Someone by the name of Li XiangXiang became the Empress.

Ruan Ning just wanted to hold Mu QingCi and the Fourth Prince's thigh. She's the sort of person who only thinks of herself and can't read the situation.

So during both banquets, she didn't really do anything on purpose, but it still ended up that way because of her.

Spoiler: Mu QingCi Extra

The last chapter of the novel is her extra story.

• On her deathbed, she had a dream of the original story line -- How she became the Empress and then Empress Dowager.
• How Li XiangXiang didn't have any children.
• How she still envies Ruan Xi.
• She and Ruan Ning didn't have any relationship and never met, even though she knew Ruan Ning was also a transmigrator.
• When she woke up, she wished she never met Ruan Ning.
• She died but was reborn.
• In this "third" storyline, Ruan Xi and Wen TingZhou still got married to each other and he doted on her.
• She missed her first meeting with the Fourth Prince and Ruan Ning because she made herself sick from staying out in the cold.
• Then she didn't attend any banquets.
• But she still became the Fourth Prince's concubine because Empress Dowager Mu favoured her and recommended her to the Emperor.
• Ruan Ning still tried to hold her thigh, but she refused to see her.
• Because of Ruan Ning's perseverance on holding her thigh, she concluded that she was also reborn.
• When she got pregnant, she didn't miscarry and had a son.
• She felt that she was now closer to her destined fate.

 

Not sure if someone added this, but sticking it here in case it wasn't covered by anyone else since it's a minor tidbit towards the end and easy to miss:

In timeline 1, the girl that Qi YueAn marries is actually a transmigrator (so Ruan Xi's body was taken over by someone). In timeline 2, we learn that Qi YueAn marries someone with a 70% resemblance to Ruan Xi -- this girl is actually the transmigrator who didn't transmigrate into Ruan Xi's body this time, she became some other mob character young miss. You can say that Qi YueAn still gets his happy ending.

 

Wow....so many transmigrators lmao, it's hard to keep track. But this does make things a bit clear imo, so thanks! From this, I think we can make an educated guess that in the first timeline, this random transmigrator and RX (MC) exchanged souls for some reason - RX got to live in the modern world in presumably the transmigrator's body while the transmigrator got to live in her body. Then, in the second timeline, MC "transmigrates" / "reincarnates" (whatever term you want to use) back to what is HER original body with her memories of her modern life intact. Idk how or when the random transmigrator reincarnates in this lifetime...but who cares hahah.

This still makes my head spin, but at least it makes a little more sense....I think xD

EDIT: I also feel pretty bad for the origMC....unlike most stories in this genre, she seems to be smart and actually relatively normal. Like yes, she envied MC (or, well, random transmigrator's life) but I don't think from what the spoilers have shown that she did anything to first lifetime's RX? She just minded her own business...unlike that stupid RN lol. I'm glad tho that she gets a chance to fix her life somewhat!

 

One last question: Does no one look down on MC's identity as a concubine-born daughter? At least her new husband's family? Because from what I understand it'd be pretty hard for a concubine-born daughter to marry a legitimate son of high-ranking family... I guess the mother was so worried her son, ML, would end up alone she didn't care lmao xD
