I know, I know. Just because it's romance doesn't mean it's just girls that read/translate it.

Just curious over here. Honestly, how do guys feel reading a romance novel? Do they get hit in the kokoro (heart) by the fluff or *wiggles eyebrows* ddudu scenes? Do they 'kya!' at scenes too?

    How do you guys feel?

I remember a scene from a manga. The guy is an erotic mangaka, and someone asked him, "does he ever have a reaction while drawing?"

    Hehehe...

About a third of my novels are of the romance genre, and another third have romantic subplots. Half of my manga list consists of romcoms, and josei and seinen with romance make up most of the rest. Almost all of them are fluffy. That should tell you how I feel.

Only straight romance, tho. No, steamy scenes are not a turn off.

Romance can easily be overrated if the treatment is not done right by the author/translator. I like subtle romance between two characters that are of age so I veer away from novels with school setting. Too much passion is meh for me. A dash of steamy scenes are okay, hopefully written well.

My heart goes doki doki sometimes too :blob_blush:

I read romance genre assuming it’s reasonably well written and the main characters are likeable. I also read BL as a straight guy if it’s in a genre I like e.g. if I’m on a cultivation binge, I’ll read MDZS. It’s no different to how I treat other genres.

I often find pure romance novels incredibly unrealistic so it’s hard for me to suspend my disbelief to enjoy reading. I spend a lot of time thinking about why this scenario, e.g. drugged ONS trope followed by unexpected pregnancy, wouldn’t happen. But I do like fluff. It’s heartwarming that good people get HE, which is a change from real life.

I don’t get “excited” by romance novels because the translated descriptions are too funny and I don’t think some authors understand human anatomy.

I forgot to say: the only “romance” tag I absolutely despise is harem. If it’s tagged harem, I’m dropping it.

Romance is fine, I have atleast 200 titles of it under my belt. I adore female characters whether its male pov series or female one. They are the true precious cinamon rolls, so auto get sucked into their happiness.
I like steamy scenes, it adds more depth to relations especially if I am reading a married life manga, It feels effing weird to see a couple and not touch each other at all. But as a guy, BL and Reverse Harems is yikes and yikes thoroughly.
I even read GL stuff rarely (like 4-5 titles till date), Prefer single rships most times with the best girl (but that best girl never really wins so gotta pray for harem and hope the best girl is in it), Regarding the Fem POV ones , Solo love is the way to go for and especially biased towards caring spouses then abusive shit talking ones. tsunders whether male or female can fuck off to hell.

I feel that these characters is young and dumb. I hardly relates to the character these days unless they're involved in live and death struggle or intricate status/politics.

A lot of the time, my most anticipated moments in a novel are to do with progress in the romantic relationship between the male and female leads

I might read pure romance novels if I didn't hate drama and find pure fluff boring after a while. Instead I read novels with both romance and action or something like that so the conflict isn't based around drama or stupid misunderstandings

Of course, sometimes I also like to read novels without any romance at all. It depends on what mood I'm in
