Discussion Wishfullfilement!!1 Harem!!!1

Not gonna lie, I'm somewhat annoyed, so I've decided to vent a bit on NUF.

I'm tired of retards in review section on NU. Just what the fck is wrong with you?

No matter which novel's review section you look at, you will be able to find at least a couple of idiots screaming something like 'wish-fulfillment' or if novel contains harem tag 'Horem!!1 OMG GUYZ IT'S A HOREM NOVEL!!1111'

Oh wow! Really!? Unbelievable! Harem!? Impossible!

I mean, I understand that not everybody is a fan of harem setting (hello there disgusting hypocrites) and sometimes harem can be really awfully written, so it's okay to blame some serious novels for abruptly throwing this shit in your face and ruining your reading experience. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

But primates I'm talking about are not so simple.

They are going even after every one-dimentional Isekai/Ecchi harem novel whose only single point is exactly this brainless harem.

Where is logic in this? What's the point? Do you feel smarter after screaming 'wish-fulfillment'? Or more elite if you point out that it's a harem novel? Like you're the only boss who came to read brainless novel but then found it offensive?

I will give some examples based on my own experience.

I've spent the last couple of evenings binge reading 'I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship, so I Became a Space Mercenary'. Despite its relatively low rating (3.8) it was surprisingly good. Basically a relaxing Slice-of-Life story with sci-fi elements. Now that I've finished all the translated chapters and feeling somewhat bored, I decided to leave a review on NU. After checking other top reviews I couldn't help but facepalm. It's here again! 7 out 9 top reviews are talking about how disgusting it is that protagonist is op, has many girls and that it's a wish fulfillment!!!

These reviews are rather popular lol. It looks like primates appreciate each other.

Fcking hell it's a novel containing word 'strongest' in its title, have a dude hugging girls on its cover and have a 'Harem' tag. What did you expect to find here? A monk starting from the very bottom of the food chain?

Another example that is even more absurd is review section of 'my gf is a zombie'. Basically pure ecchi novel is blamed for its ero content.

It's like blaming porn for R-18 content.

Haaa.... After writing this I'm feeling much better! It was a time well spent. Gj me! I wish there will be fewer retards in this world.

Ngl, just saying is wish fulfillment is nor enough, so long as it is a review and not vomiting emotions. There are times I want to read exactly that, wish fulfillment, but times when I don't, so it is good of someone else reviews to to key me know.
Your problem is with the overall eating, which is kind of fair. As long as the novel is explicit about its content, I feel you shouldn't read if you are not interested in the said content

 

Well the problem is the review that simply says it's just wish fulfillment story both aren't specific to any aspects on the writing nor it's a constructive criticism. It leave you only of two possibility that either the reviewer haven't read more into them or the reviewer just hate the genre.

 

Totally agree.. Furthermore this is a trend nowadays everywhere not just nu.. Seriously.. Don't read the Fucking Harem novel if you don't want harem.. It's there in the tags to let you know.. I read all kinds - no romance, single girl, small harem, large harem etc. Sure I'd get pissed if a single girl novel turned into harem suddenly or vice versa too but when a book clearly states that it is a harem, wish fulfillment, op MC etc. Don't read it and then rant in the review section if you don't like any of those things..

 

That's why i never take any glance toward the review. Quite biased Nuffers these days with so many "reaching to the top" kind of novels (many which is CN). They hardly appreciate the slow-life fulfilling novels

 

I mean, the tags are there for a reason, it's not an accessories, it's for you to read. So yeah sometimes it's annoying to see something like that

 

1. Many reader don't bother looking depth into the cultures existed in novel's world building (LLS)
2. This is evenmore funny, they said pervert novel in review (PLIC) are they don't bother again read the info that the wn from nocturne 18+, obviously ecchi
3. Why many moron species stain reviews by even saying, the mc get heroine again, oc harem genre means heroine more than 1

OC, okay if they write the review like, mc always saving beauty (too many such cliches) or heroine just auto love mc or mc's luck just ridiculous in which hapoen many in such wish f novel

 

The thing is, I don't think people have problems with the Harem genre itself. It was really popular back then with novels like Mushoku Tensei and manga like Rosario + Vampire. The problem is that writers (due to the popularity) started pumping out harem novels like toilet paper. These people weren't any good writers and simply capatalized on the fact that the genre was popular. This then lead to the harem members being one-dimensional and just part of the collection. This phenomenon has lead most of us to associate harem novels with one-dimensional crap.

I can only assume that a lot of these people instantly writes bad reviews whenever they find the tag. This is regardless whether the novel itself is a masterpiece, a braindead novel or even an ero novel.

Of course, there's probably a small subset of people who actually find the genre disgusting. I just want to believe that it's not as large as you may think.
