Also, can it not be a wuxia, xianxia, or xuanwuan novel? I'm fine with power scaling, but not through basic cultivation. Good examples would be: Lord of the Mysteries Trafford's Trading Club My House of Horrors Top notch novels. The kind of novel i'm looking for has a sense of lovecraftian horror. Not focusing on the tentacle bits of the genre, but the terror of the unknown. Not solely on the MC, but the world's setting in general.

No thanks. The Amber Sword's good, but it lacks that certain vibe and somber atmosphere. TbaPitH is just a nah. It's not serious enough. It's a xuanhuan. Also, it's not my cup of tea. Soul of Negary would really be to your liking. I'm someone who read the novel to its end through MTL and I can say its really promising novel. Translation isn't that far in now, and current arc is only the second arc so it doesn't seem that great, but it's amazing.
