Just sharing what I experienced back in highschool.
So when I was in grade 7, I really liked watching anime, reading manga and novels. At that time when my classmates discovered that I was an "Otaku", they started bullying me. Talking behind my back for watching those and always joking about me when they see me watching it.
That's the start of me being introvert. I deleted all my socials and denied that I am still watching those. I had a scary experience back then that I hid my otaku life until Grade 10.

Last year when I was in grade 11, my bullies were posting things related with anime and made me recalled the experience back in G7. I felt very upset when I came to know that. They were even asking for recommendations from me...

this kind of shit happens in real life???. I made friends by watching and reading anime. I did get bullied for totally different reasons but anime helped me get through it.

Recommend them BOKU NO PICO :blobcheeky:

Unless you are in Japan, chances are no one is making fun of someone being an "otaku". You'd be relieved to know they most likely were simply making fun of you as a person and simply used how you were different as an excuse to do so.

Simply put, you were easy bully material.

    Wow, that's so...wow

In my place...people really don't do that cause watching anime is like part of everyone's childhood kinda like cartoon...if someone watches them, some would even talk to them and recall fun scenes or what not and if you haven't watched them they'd kinda influence you and you'll eventually like them.

Kids are dumb in middle school. Personally I'd be glad that they switched over to my side, but at the same time I've never managed to maintain a grudge against anyone who picked on me in school growing up.

I'm really glad that anime has become so socially acceptable recently.

You should have shown a very ecchi video to them. I bet their asses would sit down like students and call you bro or master. It's what I did, minus them calling me bro.
I seriously don't get why anime is looked down upon by Japs where in every other "society", it is viewed a culture worth sharing and united for. But of course, it would be hard to publicly share your degenerate views or collection with everyone. Social death is a universal death to the social creature known as man in civil times.

Basically an otaku killed a bunch of kids once and the stigma kinda just stuck from them on.

Maybe you should ask your parents or teachers for help. I think this is the best way to stop stop bullying.

You'll be made fun of if you tell people you still watch cartoons like pokemon. Nothing to do with anime.

Ngl, in high school I was a bully and a victim of bullying.

What I did was just making fun of things people could change about themselves like making fun of their hair style and shit but it slowly escalated to me making fun of things they couldn't change like disabilities and shit. I got humbled when an upper classman decided to bully me but only stopped after I stopped being an asshole.

I talked to him recently and I gotta say that I really love this dude. He deadass told me that he only fuckled with me so I would realize that you shouldn't be an asshole.

I talked to my victims last year and I gotta say that I wished I bullied them harder....jk. Most of them are cool people that didnt really think my bullying was actually bullying (aka they thought it was just banter since they said shit back) while others thought I was a absolute asshole that should've gotten cancer, recovered but walked into on going traffic.

Anime has always been pretty popular overall in my city since the late 00s. Everyone watched Inazuma Eleven as no one disliked football. A lot more so once the popular YouTubers started puking around their filthy obsessions with waifu pillows. It also helped that the most popular one published a fucking comic and got greenlighted for an anime adaptation too.

I dunno if I already mentioned it once before, but a madlad from my class made the girls watch an episode of Boku no Pico. Chaos and hilarity ensued. His parents were called cuz porn however he didn't regret it a single bit lel.

That is rare in Japan. I believe the highest kill count was the late arson in KyoAni studio. What was the motive and the no. of victims? I thought otakus were hated, because of how perverse or anti-social they are in their circles? I never heard of a such a stigma before.
