Does it ever mentioned in any novel what happens if a normal disciple stop improving their cultivation.I know that there's a elder position but not everyone can get that strong and will eventually hit the wall. Do they graduate and stop being a sect disciple. Or do they just become somekind of caretaker of the sect that does the chores. If so then the whole point of cultivating for average cultivator is to become a handyman or botanist for the sect.

Some get assigned tasks/roles/responsibilities in regions governed by the sects, others stay on as caretakers. I've even seen some set up their own small/branch sects with the blessings of the main sect. And yes, they'd ofc prefer to hv the lifelong backing of the sect- that's one of the major reasons for joining one, after all.

And disciples also join bcuz of the chance of getting to the apex (or near it), no matter how slim the chance.

The thing is, usually it is shown that a sect is like a magical enclosed community with huge numbers or disciples and economies of their own rather than magical academies. So, they don't exactly graduate, they stop climbing the social ladder, that's all. It's like saying that the whole point of living for us is to work in the society - a rather morbid for some, but nonetheless truth, for better or worse

hmm... valid questions for the well-being of the mobs out there. Although so far in my experiences in reading, these disciples never did graduate unless it was explicitly stated that they are learning in an academy. If it's a sect, then it can be expected that there will never be any graduation at all, as life as cultivator is a life-long thing. But since the sect also need the moolah to feed the newbs, it's up to the older mobs to journey outside as an adventurer to either bring the money in or feed themselves.

Yes, depending on the level they are assigned a role, for example they are sent to the mortal world as a supervisor type, or elder of the internal or outer sect or they become guardians or ancestors or they isolate themselves to continue cultivating and only leave when there is total danger to the sect

If they're based on the Chinese temple monk they'll remain as disciples until they're accepted into inner circles by referrals where they'll then would have official duties. There's no graduation to be exact they're disciple (and full fledged monks after passing the requirements) until they either move up or decide to stop being monks.

they will not graduate in most novels they will move slowly
outer disciple-->inner disciple-->elder-->ancestor-->ascending to the heaven and becoming Immortal --> joining heaven sects-->outer disciple-->.........................ancestor
or they become too strong for their current sect and leave(betray) the weak sect to join a stronger one then following the steps mentioned previously ,

let's compare cultivation to becoming famous in real life. in real life people try to become movie stars or famous musicians because of the money, power, and popularity they can get and in novels people cultivate in order to get power and achieve similar things. in real life 99.999999% people people will fail to become movie stars and will end up doing normal jobs their entire life and in novels 99.999999% of cultivators will suck and be low level outer disciples their entire life. the less than .000001% that succeed will have all their dreams come true because they were thee ones who won the gamble.

so it's not you cultivate to become some random nobody in the sect forever, it's you gamble to become great and you either win and become great or lose and become some random nobody forever. n same with Hollywood. you gamble to become a movie star or end up as a waiter forever. the less talented you are the higher the odds of you losing but people will still take that risk because on the off chance you win, you win big.
