The duke(hes greedy with power, he starts becoming like this after his wife died)wanted Evan, his son, to marry the imperial princess to control the imperial family, but he didnt want to alert his political opponents. So he married his son to FL. In their country, divorce wasnt allowed, but remarriage was okay(after the other partner dies). He already knew that FL will have no time left. After FL dies from sickness, he wants Evan to marry the princess.

FL alread knew about his plan so she tries to win their hearts with aegyo.(which was obviously a success)
The FL who read the novel knew what her sickness cure was, and coincidentally the cure was in their garden, and she decides to heal the disease on her own.

From the reviews it looks like what the Duke is really after is a black magic spell for time travel/manipulation (?) So he can save his wife.
Here's my theory i think in the original time line the son fell in love with the original sick Laria. Like father like son he probably used the black magic to save Laria instead of his mother.

Well, I feel kind of bad about it, MC has a cure for her disease and can heal at any time so when they turn back in time and ML misses the chance to see his mother, I feel bad about it.
if i went to mc i wouldn't try to win the duke / ml and would run away from that place with the cure along with me. I would try to fake my death in a fire and live my life

 

Hey guys! So i found someone who tl this novel on Wattpad and who is already at chapter 35 of the novel. So i might post some spoilers that i found by reading.

 

Spoiler: Horse event

So it was mentioned in chapter 8, the MC goes with the ducal family to the horses competition and borrowed a piece of gold from the duke, since she is still young and have no money. Then she sais that she will bet for fun, and the duke and Evan (ML) let her do it since they were sure she won’t gain something big. Like that the MC bet about a black horse who wasn’t really rumoured for his speed or strength, and eventually because she know the OG work and how the OG ML gained a lot of money from this betting, she gained a large amount of money who was divided by two, since she and the OG ML, who is commoner bet about the black horse and gained. The head of that event goes to let MC get her money, everyone was shocked that she actually gained, even Evan (ML) and the duke. The duke was actually acting all proud about how his daughter in law gained and will be on the first page of newspaper tomorrow.
Evan (ML) gained too but not as much as Laria (MC).

Spoiler: Laria’s first move

After that Laria (MC) gained money from the bet, she wanted to creat a fake identity for herself and buy with it a territory and a noble status, and for this she asked the duke if she can go to the downtown, a chat happened between them where she was trying to convince him to go there alone, without Evan (ML) or him. Finally the duke accepted and let her maid Lisa and two knights accompanying her, while before she go out, Evan told her that he will be visiting the knights, so Laria choose with him an outfit since it will be his first time meeting them, and according to Evan’s diary of “if i had a mother” it was something that he wanted to experience (btw Evan is so cute he really deserves happiness). So Evan felt happy when Laria helped him, and then she goes to the downtown, there she entered a very famous bakery saying she wanted to buy some ganache for her family. But that was in fact just a cover for her to go to an dark information guild, so Laria did some tricks to go to that guild and let the maid and her escort waiting in the huge line for the ganache, while she goes and met Sven, a man in his early 30 with gray hair and blue eyes, who was mentioned in chapter 9 maybe? She talked with him about her plans and what he need to do for her and that he need to keep their conversation a secret from the duke. And she also wanted to know about the late duchess Matilda (Evan’s mother).

Spoiler: Matilda the late duchess

So the marriage between the duke and the late duchess was a political marriage, but Matilda was a very kind, cheerful and bright person, so she was really loved by everyone, literally. The duke loved her very deeply, and really cared about her, he was also possessive over her and some said that he was also obsessive. And because the duke loved her, he wanted to pass most of his time with her, so he didn’t really care about his work or politics, he was doing the slightest political job he could, even though he was a duke, just to enjoy more time with Matilda. The duke also hated when other mans were trying to talk to her. Unfortunately the late duchess who was already having a weak body, became even more weak during her pregnancy with Evan. The duke was taking care of her even more because of that. And of course Matilda died after giving birth to Evan. Letting the duke becoming mad for power, and changing the whole atmosphere in the ducal house, she became really gloomy.

Spoiler: The possessive duke

There was an accident where most of the people heard about, and made the conclusion that the duke was obsessive. It was when the late duchess go to shopping with the head of the knights, who have a surname blue with his name. And that’s because in the order of the knights of the ducal house, they have two uniforms. Black and Blue. The blue one is quite ugly, so every knight was choosing the black one to wear, anyway this bastard of head of the knights decided to wear the blue one. And a rumour was saying that he wear it because the eyes of the late duchess was blue. So the duke threatened him saying that he will dig his eyes if he looked at Matilda or did anything.

 

Spoiler: Evan and the leader of the knights

Meanwhile Evan (ML) go to meet the head of the ducal knights, and it was that bastard who wears blue. That chapter literally piss me off, because the head of the knights (whom i forgot the name) started to talk disrespectfully to Evan, and when Evan was going to scold him because he will become the duke in the future and that means the head of the knights is just a subordinate under him. That little piece of... begin to say that the late duchess died because of Evan, and that because of him the duke became sad and lonely, and that because of Evan everything changed in the wrong way. And my poor baby was deeply hurt and thought that everything what that bastard said was true. He also told him that he need to be unhappy and sad forever and that he isn’t allowed to feel happiness in his life. And that all what he need to do is to become a power tool for his father. So my little baby Evan believed him and thought that he isn’t allowed to feel happy, so he wanted to keep his distance from Laria

So this when i stopped reading for now, maybe tomorrow i will post more spoilers, or later on if I have time^_^

Sorry guys for the late update, I was busy today so i didn’t have time to read the novel. Anyways there is spoilers from the two chapters I’ve read

Spoiler: CH.17/18

So for three days after the accident of Evan with the blue bastard, the head of the knights, he was keeping his distance from Laria, practicing swordsmanship all day. So Laria thought that somebody had happened with the knights since Evan changed his attitude towards her after that day, she thinks that it’s suspicious and that she will investigate it. Meanwhile that day the duke hired a personal doctor for Laria, and that doctor was named Serena, a red haired woman, in fact Serena was one of the information guild’s people that Sven (the man with whom Laria talked and make the deals) send her under Laria’s command, since apparently she paid a lot to buy a fake identity, noble title, territory, and a spy under the disguise of a doctor.
Because Laria is actually becoming better by eating the fruit, so she ordered Serena to tell the duke that she have a rare disease and that Laria will probably die in her early 20, the duke wasn’t surprised since he knew that Laria was ill and will die.
Then comes a chapter with Sven pov, it was a long conversation between him and Serena, who reported to him what she did in the duke’s mansion under Laria’s order. They begin to talk about how Laria is intelligent for her age and wondered why the duke take her as his only son’s wife, since he didn’t benefit anything from it. Then a black cat named Neo appeared and Sven said that apparently Neo responded by crying when he seen Laria. So Sven and Serena thought that Laria must be related with black magic if Neo, the black cat, responded to her. In fact Neo was a demon who was under the disguise of a cat. Anyway then they begin to talk about how Laria (MC) and Evan (ML) are bounded by a political marriage, and that Laria should divorce when she will grew bigger bc the duke must want to use her for something related to power, and Serena said that Laria should find another man to her...
Sven finally talked about OG ML, who is a commoner and who also gained the horses bet with Laria, Sven said that he came to buy a noble title and a land, so Sven give him the part of the estate that Laria didn’t afford to pay since she don’t have enough money. And Sven said that the commoner (OG ML) was a little embarrassed when he heard that the owner of the other half of the land changed to Laria. Serena asked if the OG ML was handsome, and Sven approved it as a response, so Serena and Sven now think that OG ML is actually stalking Laria

Spoiler: Serena

Serena is in fact the deputy head of the information guild, she is just a rank below Sven i think. She is also the woman who pretend to be Laria’s doctor in the duke’s estate, to let Laria pretend to be time-limited.

Neo is a demon living temporarily as a black cat in the Dark information guild

 

What the hell? The ml is literally his boss and he talks to him like that?? sorry but how you going to be a duke and let someone who’s under you, talk like that to you. Now I understand why in other mangas, the dukes/duchess train their heir/heiress to be more “ruthless”.

 

Yess exactly, even if the duke is quite ruthless with the ML, by sent him to a private school that only lower nobles attended, and he haven’t really talked to him sweetly or anything like this. But Evan is still 13 years old, who never told him about how his mother died in his face. So he passed by a shook phase when he thinks that all what the head of the knights said was true, and that he don’t deserve to have feelings as such as happiness. tbh i will prefer if Evan yelled at him or put him in his place, cuz ML is the futur duke, he need people to respect him especially a knight who is under his command.

 

This is a simple personal SUPPOSITION about blue-clad Ludva, the deputy leader of the knights (i did a mistake before calling the head of the knights).

I think that the jerk Ludva, was in love with Matilda, the late duchess, bc of:
•He was the only one to wear an ugly blue uniform, and everyone think that he wore it bc of the blue eyes of the late duchess.
•The duke literally threatened him by digging his eyes out bc of the duchess, his wife.
•That bastard have no respect to ML, who is a mini copy of the duke, and keeps telling him that if he wasn’t born, the late duchess will still be alive. He was his mother’s killer. He made everyone sad and gloomy.
•Sven himself thinks that the jerk loved Matilda, saying that it cannot be helped, cuz Matilda was such a beautiful, lovely, good and kind hearted woman, that she was the kind of person that you can’t help but love.
•And Sven also said that Matilda was quite close to the jerk leader of the knights, that he wanted to be always with her when she go to the town or something like this. But the duke was very possessive and jealous so most of the time he was the one beside Matilda.

so all this make me think that the jerk Ludva may be in love with the late duchess, and tbh this isn’t the first time a knight fell in love with his “master”??
Anyway i hope Evan will put that bastard in his right place or throw him away

 

Spoiler: CH.20

Evan(ML) kept his distance a maximum from Laria(MC), at night when Laria was waiting for him in their bed, he was wearing long sleeve in a hot summer night, which Laria found suspicious. She then asked him if he wanted her to tell him a bed story, he then told her that she don’t have to or something like this. Laria found this even more suspicious, so while talking with him, she discovered a serious wound on Evan’s arm with small bruises everywhere. She asked him how and who did that to him, he said that it was something normal, that this sort of things always happens during swordsmanship, and that she doesn’t need to care that much about him. He also told her that she doesn’t need to wait for him to sleep anymore, and she doesn’t need to wait in s line for a ganache, that all of this things isn’t important. After that Laria made herself sleeping bc she’s mad at him, than she heard him saying “I’m sorry” before going to sleep. Laria decided to know who is abusing Evan bc his wound is too much, and that he is still the only heir of the duke, so normally the knights will be super cautious while training with the young master.

Spoiler: CH.21

A short time passed after Laria and Evan’s conversation at night, Laria found many small bruises on Evan’s body, and that only made her suspicious about his maltreatment even bigger, she thought that the one knight who is abusing him must be really meticulous and he is probably abusing mentally. Than Serena (the fake doctor) entred and gave Laria a present from Sven, bc Laria told Sven that she smelled a strong smell of burning in a room of the guild the last she seen him, and Sven shown his gratitude to her saying that he is in debt to her, bc in that room his mother was living in, and there was also a black mage so Sven thinks that the black mage did something in his mother’s room. Than Laria’s maid, Lisa, entered with two knights and gave Laria a lot of luxurious gifts as dress, bc the duke told her to do so.
Serena told Laria about the OG ML, Seymour, saying that he is following Laria’s footsteps and that he is a possible stalker of her. Little did she know that in fact Laria is the only one following Seymour footsteps from the OG novel.
Than Laria played the role of a cute weak lady and asked the knights that was with her maid about swordsmanship and if she can practice it, and if she does will she have many wounds? The knights responded negatively saying that she cannot have many wounds while training, and Laria sked that to know if Evan lied to her or no. And revealed that even Evan, is being taught by the head of knights (or the knights deputy leader, apparently it’s the same, all we need to know is that he talk about the jerk), Laria than understand that her husband is being abused by the head of knights.

Spoiler: CH.22

The conversation between Laria and the two knights and Lisa continued, Laria begin to say nonsense about the head of the knights name and where he is teaching sword to Evan, just for the knights and maid to correct her and telling her the truth. Laria known that Evan was practicing sword in an far place, this was the rose garden where the late duchess passed most of her time, and where no one entered because of their sadness, especially the duke. And then we have a pov of the fkng bastard of Ludva (I’m so mad rn, this is just confirming my supposition) Ludva was clearly beating Evan with his sword while training, Evan was having a small wooden sword while Ludva had a big and real sword, he was telling him that since Matilda’s death everyone was being sad, and that he should never be happy. And then he thought that Evan was dirty boy who have nothing like Matilda and who is a copy of his father, and Ludva who had loved Matilda from behind for a long tike was disgusted with him. He thought that Evan and the duke were two persons with the Icard name who took Matilda from him. And bc he have no way to bully the duke, he bullied his son. He then said that: “the young master is the seed of misfortune”
Than we have a small part about Evan thoughts, he was doing his best to beat Ludva with a small broken wooden sword, he thought that just by looking at Ludva’s uniform made him throw up. He thought about Laria and how she was the only one to treat him warmly, and how she was like a sun shining.

as i assumed about Ludva, he rlly loved Matilda and now want to destroy Evan, omg that rlly played on my nerves tbh

 

Spoiler: Ludva the sh*t

So the head of the duke knights was in love with Matilda, he always compared himself with the duke, he was super mad when Matilda died, and how Evan was a small form of the duke. He wanted to destroy him because he is a f*cker and coward, bc he can’t bully the duke so he is using the excuse of teaching him to abuse him mentally and physically.

Spoiler: Evan’s abusing

Evan was never treated warmly by anyone, if we expect Laria, the fact that Ludva brainwashed him with his mother’s death, made him rlly think that he don’t deserve to be happy with Laria, because many people became sad because of his mother’s death. So he is trying to beat Ludva with a broken wooden sword during his training and abusing, while Ludva is a strong man with a real sword.
During his school period, he met a boy named Jared who approached him and became his friend, one day Evan seen him badmouthing him with other boys, and that he was just pretending to be Evan’s friend. He gone mad and beat Jared up for three weeks in a hospital.
