Forgotten Title Hostage prince becomes fearsome, holds the country hostage to marry the princess

The novel had a hostage prince (ML) who was treated badly by everyone except the FL, who is a beloved princess. And when he grows up, he becomes a fearsome leader and comes back to attack the kingdom.
He made a promise to the FL to come back and meets up with her, disposes off her suitor and goes away while she has no idea he is now a fearsome leader. The next day a messenger arrives to tell the emperor that the enemy army is at their door.
The ML is the enemy leader and meets with the FL's kingdom's general across a river and tells them that he will spare them if they hand the princess (FL) over for marriage. The princess (FL) is shocked but is sent over for marriage. She then finds out the real identity of the ML.
I had read a few chapters previously but then lost track and forgot about the name. The first chunk of chapters are about their childhood and then the ML goes away, they all grow up and then the real story starts.
The FL is a well loved princess and the ML grows up to become a fearsome leader of his kingdom. He promises the princess to return and he keeps it.
If anyone can tell me what the name of the novel is, I'll be extremely thankful! ^^

 

Sounds interesting I will be keeping my eye out. At least he had a better outcome than the hostage prince in Game of Thrones...

not a hostage prince but prince sold into slavery after his country got attacked by MC's country? then MC bought him or something like that and so on

It is a CN novel. Not quite this one tho. The prince is sent as a hostage to another country as a part of building diplomatic relations. He goes back to his country later on.
The ML spares the FL's country only on the condition that they hand her over as his bride.

Not that I can remember. I read it a long time ago... It didn't have any transmigration or anything like that, from what I can recall. Pretty straightforward too.
I did. I was being translated then, so I left it while waiting for the translation to finish and eventually forgot about it :/

The novel description on NU did include a rough summary of the part where the prince (ML) asks for the princess (FL) in exchange for not attacking the kingdom.

It was probably what drew me to it in the first place ^^

It is! I remember going through some rec list of a novel that I was reading and from that list I found this story. And defo not an original story as it was being translated. It was a while ago, and I didn't sign in to Chrome, so I wasn't able to find anything in the history either :/
It is a CN that was being translated at that time (about 4-6 months ago), maybe upto ch 28-35 and was listed on NU.

This one sounds interesting, but unfortunately, it's not the one I'm looking for. :/ There was no transmigration/quest in the novel that I'm trying to find
