He has great parents, a great nanny and everything else. The only things he lacked were empathy and compassion. Which he grew after having regrets.
I really like this ml, he’s so refreshing compared to shitty ml’s who cheat before killing their wives. So here’s what i picked up from him. In the first timeline he’s indifferent to her and doesn’t try to know her, very probably because he’s always felt like the engagement was forced (there’s a scene in the manhwa that shows a flashback to ml as a kid night before current ml woke up back in time, where child ml is having a fit about going to meet his fiancee and said something along the lines of “are we just selling children now?”) and later he probably continues the distance because of our fl’s family who’s been vying for power for ages (her family has been providing empresses for generations by using the excuse that the family has the blood of angels, as means to gain more power and tie themselves to the royal bloodline and later after fl dies in og timeline her father immediately tries to get her younger sister elevated to the position of empress), also its a political marriage love isn’t the first priority. Her being the perfect empress was unnerving and freaked him out b/c it seemed like she didn’t have a personality of her own (manhwa illustrates how she’s essentially just a stone statue or a doll in that position). When she dies, he’s startled(? Is the best word I’d use) but he doesn’t really grieve her because how can you grieve someone you don’t know? Like i feel he’s more in shock when she dies, less of him being a cold emotionless bastard, i just don’t think he knows how to handle it. Her death doesn’t really sink in until much later when he starts noticing all the little things she did for him and he felt a sort of longing for this person he never really got to know. Then comes the diary, (ppl found it when cleaning out her chambers and gave it to him) he picks up out of curiosity to see if he could learn anything about the empress he didn’t give a chance. While reading the diary is when I believe his grief truly hits. The more he reads, the more guilty he feels, he didn’t and still doesn’t know her likes, dislikes, her favorite color even and she was his wife. He starts to empathize with her and wonder how much of her life did she spend to be the perfect empress for him when he never gave her the time of day. He can’t suddenly undo her death but he goes to the magician and asks about reversing time because even if there was a chance that he could make it up to her, he’d do it. (I’m really enjoying how our ml doesn’t blame others for his bad behavior and tries to take responsibility for it. He literally paid an unknown price to fix it, he was willing to just about die to fix his mistakes)
i'm pretty sure FL and the wizard girl knows eachother i remember someone saying that the price is too make her happy.
I don't think so. If she does in the future, I don't know yet. What happened was that she went back to the past(?) I think. Well, she meet the witch again who knows Liz but Liz doesn't know or remember her. After she goes back, they give her medicine to forget what happened/erase her memories.
All the possible excuses aside, I never cared that he was indifferent to her. I don't expect love in an arranged marriage. Where I dislike him is his lack of respect, first, for her as a human being, and second, as his empress. I can absolutely hate someone, but I would act out of common courtesy when they are dying in front of me. Crying fake tears to put on a show demonstrates that he was, at the very least, capable of "acting" differently. And, "jumping on bandwagon" as if we are all brainless lemurs, seriously? At that point, we only had a couple chapters to go off of and the author clearly intended for us to dislike him at first. Even if what you said is true or something similar, does it matter? I can dislike his previous actions and grow to like him (and understand him) later. Isn't this part of the point in this novel? We don't need you to question our opinions. Simply state yours without bashing others.
Agreed. Must be more to it, whether curse or hated her because of the Duke. Not sure yet, but either way, the lack of the most basic level of empathy was troubling. And, are his parents deceased at that point? No way would they accept that kinda treatment. They seem like really good people. Btw, I noticed the comic on a few sites: Newtoki, Zinmanga, etc. I think it's currently up to around 7 chapters... It's to the point where the Empress/Emperor show up to the Duke's to take FL away.
Exsctl so far he had loving parents who didnt mistreat hom theirs no reason why he shouldve acted the way he did
I'm guessing his character changing was a side effect of the magic. and while Elizabeth was alive he actually showed some courtesy. he never treated her bad. but he didn't act all lovely too. he fake cried because he was an emperor and he couldn't show his own emotions to the empire as you can see. Elizabeth is very lovely she actually deserves the world. but i don't think she loved him too. she was too focused on being the perfect empress, and she was like a puppet because of her shitty parents. the two of them had their own problems so I'm so happy that the storyline flows slow. and the art is so good. i like both of them my babies.
If I remember correctly when the emperor was reading her diary before time was reversed, she did write something about how when he escorted her somewhere they held hands and her heart was beating so fast she couldn’t fall asleep for the entire night. Make of that what you will because obviously this doesn’t 100% mean she was in love with Leon but as we’ve said many times tho right this thread, she must be protected
