Has any nuffian attended anime expo? I'm really interested in attending someday, I'm just wondering what the experience was like for someone who has attended.
In my country, be prepared for a lot of lining up when you want to purchase some merchandise. Also, prepare a lot of money with you in case you want to splurge on the merch there. There's also cosplayers around you could ask to take a picture with. I've only attended anime expos twice cuz I'm not really the type to spend money on anime merch. I like my home far too much to go out.
I wanted to but when I went there, it was basically chaos lol... I mean it DEF looks fun and all but although there were security, the amount of people just suffocates me haha, I didn't come with anyone too so I basically will feel lost with that amount of people so I just sidetracked to the cinemas instead
I went for about 7 years consecutively. You know the ins and outs after the 3rd year. What lines get crowded, which entrance is ignored buy the masses and where to park. How to get in and out without standing in line for forever and last but not least.....KNOW WHERE TO GET ADA sticker. Which is for ppl with disabilities. I only found out about it in my 4rth or 5th year. Could have had priority to so many things. I missed the premier of K missing kings due to my lack of knowledge On another note, I was basically "loser" in the eyes of the "normal" people so I felt quite welcomed but other weirdos like me and enjoyed that but I also got more and more claustrophobic(worsened as I got older, elevators are no more in my life) Ada sticker came in handy at this point Am older now (obviously lol) so I don't need that kind of acceptance anymore but I enjoy the karaoke contest! My main reason for going in the later years I can only be runner up after so many times -_- will win one day !
Anime expo? Not sure I've gone to an "official" anime expo, but I've gone to all the regional independent anime conventions around here. Can't wait for all this covid stuff to clear up a bit so I can put on a cosplay of some unknown, untranslated LN protagonist and hop around a marketplace looking at art that just barely qualifies as not being porn for a few hours before spending all my money on the one cheep Japanese food stand that some clever entrepreneur set up. My last convention I went to I ended up seeing ProZD and then listening to Nanahira the whole way home. It was a good time.
If a gathering of 30~ people for a fan-hosted expo counts then yes. Otherwise the most experience I have with expos is online. ME!ME!ME! came out at a expo event.
I went to one once years ago. It was kind of boring for me, maybe because I didn't know anyone, or really what to do there. Went to a few panels, saw some cosplay and then went home. Edit: Oh, wait is there a difference between anime cons and expos? I went to a con so maybe this doesn't apply.
Yes, in Ai-chan's youth, Ai-chan went to Comiket wearing Eva plugsuit. There were lots of cute girls, photographers and people. A LOT of people. The key rule of going there is that you must walk with the flow. You can't go against the flow because it's so packed with people. If you got separated with your friend, tough luck, cellphones are really glitchy with so many people in such enclosed space. If the virus subside one day and Comiket reopens, follow these tips and tricks: 1. Bring a walkie talkie, they use different frequency from cellphones, so you can still communicate with your friends unless they're too far away or other people also bring walkie talkie. Ai-chan didn't, but Ai-chan saw a bunch of otaku using it last time. 2. Set up a place to meet up in case you got separated such as maybe Kisaragi Gunma's booth or the girl's toilet. Most people choose the toilet. 3. Don't get distracted. There are a lot of sellers. If you stop at each one, you won't ever get out. Just leaving the flow and reentering it takes time. That being said, if Comiket reopens, they will likely implement social distancing, so the above advice probably won't matter anymore. But setting up a meeting place is essential.
As a proud otaku, I'd probably go broke if I decide to splurge on merch QAQ Thanks for the advice Ai-chan!
Thank you! Experience is definitely a must. Honestly, being ourselves is the coolest thing ever. Normal is overrated I guess it counts I honestly have no idea. I thought they were the same? Paris
I've gone to a few. It's not very fun if you're not really into many of the panels or events and you don't know anyone. I go to look at the stalls and maybe buy a keyring or an artbook. Sometimes, there are game demos to try. I'm friends with a few professional cosplayers and online artists so I'll visit them too.
I've went a few times, mostly to be the spg of a friend's stall. It's all fun and games until the ac stops working...in a packed-to-the-brim room with no windos......in the middle of a tropical dry season....and you're cladded in a thick, layered lolita outfit...
Ohhhh, I'm going to note these down to try them out... What's an Spg? Honestly, I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry
