    Description:
The Fifth Young Lady of the residence of Marquis Chang Xing was wrongly carried away upon birth and the daughter of a farmer became a Young Lady by accident. The real daughter of the Marquis residence lived amongst the commoners and suffered for thirteen difficult years.

On the thirteenth year, Chu Jin Yao finally returned to her biological parents’ side. However, the awkward thing was that Mother disliked her for having vulgar manners and wholeheartedly loved the previous ‘daughter’. Even Grandmother could not bear to send the granddaughter she had doted on for thirteen years back to the farming family and made the decision to allow the fake daughter to stay on and continue to be the Young Lady of a Marquis lineage.

Chu Jin Yao, who grew up in a poor family, was out of place in the Marquis Residence. After yet another hindrance from her Younger Tang Sister, Chu Jin Yao was shedding tears in her room when she discovered that her jade pendant could speak.

Her jade pendant had a bad temperament but would heed to her complaints, help her in the residence battles and provide her guidance to oppress scums.

It wasn’t until one day when Chu Jin Yao had an encounter with the infamously violent Crown Prince.

“Speaking of which, you might not believe but my jade pendant spirit looks exactly like the Crown Prince.”

    Not fluent in Chinese but...
Chu Jin Yao encounters Qin Yi's subordinates speeding through the streets. She saves a little boy, son of a merchant who was about to collide with the horses. She was wounded, the jade absorbs her blood. Qin Yi loses consciousness and returns to his body. By this time, Old Madam Chu has realized CJY's potential. They plan to wed her to Lin Xiyuan (Eldest di son and heir apparent of Huailing Jun Wang). So that, when Lin Bao Zhu (di daughter and xianzhu) marries the Crown prince, the relationship between the two families and the royal family will be stronger.
This novel makes me feel bleak. There's little sincerity among family members. Everyone is assigned their worth. It's especially saddening for women. At first, no one cared for CJY but now they realize how clever and beautiful she is, they want to use her to establish relations. At first, they were okay with selling her to be LBZ's companion and eventually concubine of the Crown Prince. It's so practical. Too cold.

    Guess who
Chu Jinyao was restless with anxiety and wanted to return to the banquet. However, the more anxious she became, the more she could not get things done. She went around several times, and finally had to stop in frustration.

She detoured and lost her way.

It's better now. Don't talk about herself, afraid even the instigators behind the scenes can't find where she is.

On the tall building at the corner, a man in ocher red garment was standing in front of the window, his fingers tapping regularly on the window's edge.

An attendant in a green cháng páo next to him also copied his hands, watching the girl in a white coat and red skirt circling the yard. The wind blew from the treetops, carrying with it a biting chill. The attendant's neck trembled, and couldn't help asking: "Master, what are you looking at?"

"I just want to see how long till she finds her way out." The young man smiled softly. "It seems that I am overestimating. She can't find the way at all."

Xiao Linzi stretched his head and looked at it . He really couldn't figure it out. Master stood at the window for half a day in the cold wind for a long time in order to see a if a girl knows her way in the garden?

However, before Xiao Linzi finished muttering, he saw his Master's finger point to him. His cuffs are decorated with exquisite turquoise, and his fingers are slender and well-proportioned: "You go out and send her outside."

Xiao Linzi stared in shock: "Master, you're speaking to me?"

    "Why, don't want to go?"

"Don't dare." Xiao Linzi quickly lowered his head, and departed without delay. After turning around, he quietly raised his sleeve to wipe the sweat from his forehead.

Their Master indeed possess the disposition of someone at the top, with unfathomable emotions. After coming back from the battlefield, his temper became more and more incomprehensible.

After dismissing the person, the tall young man held onto the window and watched the girl's head moving like a headless fly. Unconsciously, he smiled: "How long has it been... the sense of direction is still this bad."

    Proper introduction:
The novel is a maliciously switched at birth story. It opens with the real daughter being retrieved by her father and returning to her noble family. Her mother is actively hateful not only keeping the fake, but keeping her in a higher position than her actual daughter. The fake daughter is complete trash.

Well this was different just not in a great way. I will give the novel this it has one of the better depictions of life in the inner palace for a novelupdates novel. After that though it's pretty bad. The character dynamics and plot development are especially bad.

    lets get to the spoiling

Chu Jin Yao is the MC. She was maliciously switched at birth with the daughter of the Su family. This was possible because the Tartars (love their sauce with fish) were invading while her mother was pregnant, spurring the family to flee. Everyone in the Su family knew she wasn't their relative and with the exception of the eldest sister abuse her.

Opening of the story: The marquis her father is picking her up from the Sus after finding out she was DELIBERATELY SWAPPED. NOTE while not stated at this point in the narrative HE DOES NOTHING TO THE Sus. He's a marquis and peasants have stolen and abused his child, his response shrug it off.

She arrives back at the Chu Mansion, her mother snubs her (ewww too filthy to be my daughter), the fake daughter does much the same. She is given the ,ost remote courtyard to live in and a set of incompetent/corrupt maids. Naturally she is destroyed by this. The father leaves to tend to military matters, while the mother just ignores her. Later the grandmother lets all the daughter's select fabric for clothing MC is mocked for damaging the fabric with her calloused hands.

While she is in pain the spirit of the prince emerges from her pendant and starts up a relationship with her mostly out of boredom. He gives her training in etiquette and pitting people against each other and a little bit of grooming(she's 13). The marquis returns congratulates his wife on teaching the MC manners which she accepts knowing she did nothing of the sort. Jin Miao starts to get nervous about her place in the family as he didn't say anything nice about her.

There's a scene of the family handing out monthly allowances, Jin Yao winds up with 30 tales instead of the usual 2 (back compensation(. This will become a problem later as Jin Miao will use the money as an excuse to have the mother plant a torture maid on Jun Yao.

After this point we have Jin Miao becoming ever more scheming until we get to the next arc the princess companion arc. The daughters are all competing to see who will be the county princess' study companion, At this point Jin miao first escalates the needling then takes her scheming up a notch teaming with the third sister to frame MC for destroying her books. MC is punished hard because she won't admit guilt. Later quin Yi plants evidence exposing the frame. The grandmother finds this and decides Jin Miao really isn't part of the family but won't do anything to help the MC. She also keeps it under wraps not telling the mother what her beloved daughter has been up to, or taking any action to prevent future problems.

MC and JM are both selected to be study companions. JM goes in and continues her plans of undermining the MC. Around this time MC saves the son of a shopkeeper while the family is out buying jewelry. At this point the prince disappears from the pendant and wakes up in his body. The shopkeeper and the prince through the shopkeeper reward the MC with fabric silver and a shop of her own, ever more triggering JM. JM Keeps trying to scheme the MC and failing. At about this time the grandmother decides it would be good to marry the MC to her cousin the county prince (not 100% on who is who). JM naturally goes UNFAIR MINE, and schemes to ruin MC's reputation. First she trues to make it seem MC is secretly trying to meet with him, but this blows up in her face. Her next attempt is to try and use her birth family and the shop the MC was given to say she has been selling herself for money. This fails but the allegation is enough to destroy the MC's reputation so she can only come in as a concubine.

The prince hears about this and while he was willing to let her marry to be happy he won't have her used as concubine. He writes the emperor to bestow the MC as his wife. He sends the not so secret police to deal with the Sus exposing what they did.

Once the imperial marriage edict arrives JM is even more triggered, the county lord's family is taken aback, they tried to make the future empress a concubine. MC's family is celebrating their good fortune and getting ready to move to the capitol. At this point MC proposes to grandma that since they are moving there's no need to bring the trash with them. Grandma is reluctant, but MC makes it clear it's not a negotiating point. JM is sent back to the Sus.

    End Taiyun Begin Capitol

Traditional Chinese society was extremely concerned with face and their idea of family/clan harmony. The grandmother and parents probably aren’t “correcting” the circumstances due to what they see as embarrassment, loss of face, and disrupting the family harmony. This would include having to acknowledge that they were hoodwinked and raised someone else’s child at their expense.

In "the noble girl and the farmer" the Evil main wife killed every male child the mistress had for 10 years (there are 12 mistress because every time the babys die the husband thought he just unlucky so he married again and again), when the husband discover it he decided to divorce her but his mother stopped him because a main wife getting divorce is scandalous.

Some people might not consider the children to be fully human until a certain age, with what child and infant death being common. Unless the gender is publicized, most people wouldn't immediately think much of it. After all, depending on the sensibilities of the dynasty, concubine-born or outside-born children were "only half human" anyway. Its easier to keep in the wraps. The divorce of the main wife is a whole monster itself and why unless they fuck up really badly, it doesn't happen. Even if they do, if it can be hidden, they tend to not do it. After all, a man can have countless concubines (tho it depends on the dynasty and their station but) so as long as a wife can be a good household manager...

Usually shubaow for me, but sadly it's down for me currently. You could try poking around mtl novel here: https://www.mtlnovel.com/the-crown-prince-in-the-jade-pendant/chapter-41-banquet-interrupted/

    https://www.mtlnovel.com/the-crown-prince-in-the-jade-pendant/chapter-list/

Or you can start here, at the very bottom, last paragraph: https://www.256wx.net/read/18727/75.html
The above site does "pages" instead of chapters, so chapter 42 starts on the very last paragraph. You'll have to google translate/mtl it yourself for that one. The words will be different though. So MTL novel might be better?

I haven't caught up to the whole thing about her family currently, but I do believe I've seen what has become of Jin Miao in Chapter 68 and 69.

So, to start with this... The crown prince decided to visit the Marquis house as Jin Yao's fiance. Upon entering some room (I don't remember), he saw Jin Yao being pulled by the discipline/teaching momo sent by the empress. She had lost a lot of weight due to the torment they were giving her, so he ordered them to be sent back. Jin Yao interceded for the sake of her reputation, and the Crown Prince rescinded his order. Then he proceeded to take her somewhere to play chess for a while, taught her some things about her position and status as a crown princess, and left some servants and people for her to show his favor.

Due to the favor shown, Jin Yao gets more speaking power and uses her newfound prestige to force Old Madame Chu to stop trying to send other girls from the Chu family to go marry the Crown Prince with JY. She also brings up that Jin Miao should not come with them to the capital, after all, it's a long journey and it isn't good to separate the family. Old Madame Chu says in front of the whole family the decision about sending Jin Miao back, knowing full well that Zhao-Shi (JY's bio-mom) would blame JY and hate her for it.

JM is sent back to the Su family where Su Sheng (JM's older brother?) is no longer allowed to take the exam to become an official (chapter 61) due to the Su parents framing JY as the kept woman of Master Wei who owns the shop she receives dividends from in Chapters 56-58. (JM told the Su parents what to say and said everything will be fine because JM will be the future Crown Princess and later on Empress in Chapter 55. The Su family get their comeuppance in chapters 61 through the Crown Prince and the Jinyiwei (Embroidered Uniform Guards, who are like the imperial family's guards/bodyguards/investigators). )

JY also sends a very rich dowry for JM, and Zhao-shi also stuffs even more gold and silver into JM's dowry as well as a second-rank maid to do the heavy labor for JM. JM is forcibly stuffed into a carriage and sent away. In front of the whole village, some of the servants "accidentally" drop one of the heavy chests that are her dowry revealing all the gold, silver, silks, and jewelry inside and say that JM is a very rich woman with enough dowry to take care of her for the rest of her life.

JM doesn't understand why she got such a good dowry, but the villagers are looking at all the gold and silver greedily, as are the Su family. (Ever heard of the dangers of letting a toddler wander through a busy marketplace with a bunch of gold on him? Yeah, that's JY's set up.) As for the maid, the maid is disgusted with the Su's house and means and thinks that JM is now just a village girl, and no better and no worse than her.

As JY is moving to the capital, she hears that JM was forced to enter a marriage, but the dowry is a big issue. Also, the maid that Zhao-shi stuffed in is actually a problem, because JM has a biological younger brother who can't marry a wife until JM is married out. (I think this implies that the maid that Zhao-shi stuffed in has seduced the younger brother and is causing trouble for JM? This is simply a couple of paragraphs in chapter 69).

    EDIT:

    TL;DR:

In Chapter 68, JM is kicked out and sent back to the Su Family with a ton of wealth for her dowry from JY and even more from Zhao-shi (JY's bio-mom). Zhao-shi also stuffs in a maid to help take care of JM. The Su Family is a greedy family, and also due to the troubles they caused JY on JM's orders, they were kicked back into their village, humiliated by the Imperial bodyguards, and their oldest son is no longer allowed to take the examinations to try to become an official/scholar. (Oh, also, because of the Su parent's behavior and Su Sheng's own behavior no one wants to marry Su Sheng (the oldest son), so their family line will be utterly broken).

When she's sent back to the Su family, the people sending her back make it extremely clear that JM has a very big dowry and is a wealthy woman. JM's maid looks down on JM and thinks that JM is now just a little village girl without any strong backing, so why should she serve JM? The villagers and the Su Family can't seem to take their eyes off of JM's dowry.

In Chapter Nice (69), JY hears some time later that JM was being forced into a marriage, but the big dowry is naturally causing issues. Also, that Zhao-shi sending a maid has backfired and harmed JM instead of helped her because JM has a younger brother who can't get married until JM is married out.

I love this author's work. I just don't know if I will feel super frustrated on behalf of the FL reading this book. Was it frustrating until very late in the book?
