No, it is not late. The Great Mage Returns After 4000 Years, this is late, very late. Chapter 13 are open for public, but NU only show chapter 9. This is late. And this is not the worst time, here was more later updates.
Didn't they say they were delaying the announcement on NU, to catch a bot, maybe it just got stuck with a delay afterward...?

Volume 6 is when it starts, the first side chapter involves Heinz but all the ones after are the Eighth Guidance's (Side Chapter 16-20). Though I think they are first introduced in side chapter 11 (volume 5), I just skimmed it so I'm not completely sure. It's when they introduced Murakami's group at least.

Ahaha, just imagine this big, buff warrior type sniffling and hugging Van's legs, thanking him for thinking about him since nobody else does anymore. The gods on Vida's side have been a lot of fun to see interacting with Van, really a lot more relatable than Alda's crew who all seem to have his stakes shoved up their... ahem.
Well, Alda is a hypocritical tyrant, and tyrants tend to force their values on to others... or they suffer the "consequences".
Alda also only recruits people who think the same way as him. Fitun was an exception, because he happened to do 'good' while satisfying his bloodlust. But even Fitun was worn down into a husk of his former self after thousands(?) of years. Only the threat of a second Demon King reignited his (twisted) passion. Even the gods with slightly different points of view are watched by Alda, like the Goddess of Shadows. Though, to be fair, he's right to mistrust them. They are the most likely to be affected by Van's guidance.
