It reduces the amount of junk saved on the database and doesn't push other peoples threads down unnecessarily. The front page only displays 2 forum posts, so if anyone else posted something you'd have pushed them completely away from anyone not actively on the forums. Mods have even requested people to gather their replies in one post instead of making 2-5 when responding to multiple in a row.
