I am rereading the Harry Potter series and just realised that secret keepers are redundant. I mean, Voldemort just had to send and track a letter sent to James and Lily via owl, and he'd have easily found them. To support this, Harry sends a letter to Ron and Hermione when they're at the headquarters of the order of phoenix. At that time, he hasn't been permitted this information and Dumbledore is the secret keeper.
It's a plothole. Anyway, even if Voldemort knew about this, he wouldn't do that because he is retarded. He could have easily sent his followers to deal with Harry but decided to do it himself because he's dumb as bricks. If he was smart in the first place, there wouldn't have been a prophecy to foretell his downfall.
Voldemort could have had someone shank harry at any time even at school using some older slytherin. Pretty sure a quick knife between the ribs in a crowded hallway where it be hard to take him quickly to tge infirmary would work. Hell the fact they apparently didn't even bother looking for Harry at his only remaining relatives house tells you how much effort they went. Even a simple delayed mind control spell on the aunt's family making them kill him in his sleep would have probably worked especially when he's 11.
Or, using JKR's explanation of a secret keeper you can assume that Dumbledore wanted Harry to know and thus the owl was able to find them.
Tom wouldn't know even if he's standing before the Potter's windows (that's the spell works like a charm)
Should a witch or wizard not wish to be sent letters (or tracked in any other way), he or she will have to resort to Repelling, Disguising or Masking Spells, of which there are a great range. It is possible to protect yourself from all correspondence, or all but that carried by a specific owl. If a witch or wizard is determined not to be contactable by a persistent creditor or ex-boy or girlfriend, they might try a masking spell specific to that person, but this ploy is easily circumnavigated by asking somebody else to send the owl. In general, it takes strong protective magic, and a willingness to forego a lot of birthday cards, to avoid the attentions of Owl Post. https://www.wizardingworld.com/writing-by-jk-rowling/owls
As an extra look up the list of Voldemort's Horcruxes. Half of them are in Hogwarts and the other half are in accessible locations in England. If he really wanted to hide them then something like putting it inside a chest in a random cementery plot in eastern europe covered in concrete or random places where only he knows where they are would have worked much better. Instead he chooses locations where his enemies live or locations related to his allies.
The simple explanation for that to be honest is likely just that the whole story is overfocused on the UK to the point that the rest of the world seem unimportant, even though Voldemort is supposed to be a threat to the rest of the world as well. Similar to how some tv series such as Supernatural is pretty much limited to the US.
I believe that the creation of Horcruxes lower the intelligence of the person who created them my reasoning behind this is that he used to be the top student of the school and held himself back from being discovered for years despite having already had troublesome tendencies before even attending the school with the secret chamber being the exception. Yet he can't do much when he becomes Voldemort. He's become overdependent on the avada kadavra spell to the point that he barely uses anything else and just fights it out with magic power if someone where to attack him while he was having this battle he'd probably be badly wounded. On another note how did that group become something for all of Brittan to worry about. How are Voldemort and his death eaters able to cause so much trouble? If their descendants are anything to go by they aren't particularly good at any form of magic not dueling, charms, or anything else they mostly just say we're pure blooded so we don't need to be good, yet somehow a group of these incompetent people caused great panic in an area full of wizards (book 4 during the quidditch world cup) to the point that no one even stood up to them. After much thought I believe it's mostly Dumbledore's fault because he made sure not to kill anyone which means that his ally's kept dying while the enemies just went to prison then got released again because the ministry was corrupt. This in turn made the death eaters bold because they didn't really have to worry about anything while the order of the phoenix had to seriously worry for their lives making it a pointless battle.
the loss of his nose took a toll on him, which leads to some (a lot) bad decisions. Take care of your nose, people
Oh poor Tom Unrelated to the topic. Another reason why Vodemort and co succesfull is because Ministry of Magic didn't ask for help from Ministry of Magic in other countries. Asking for others help mean they will lose credibility to solve their home domestic affair, it might also consider a slap to the face and become laughing stock in international community if they can't stop terrorize group. So they just act against Death Eaters in their lonesome and hope for the best. The result is their Ministry is taken over by Voldemort and friends.
On a side note, it is pretty funny that they consider the greatest evil wizard of all time as a "domestic affair", and end up prioritizing their face over asking for help in order to stop a man that could endanger the whole world... Because yeah, that's a totally sensible behavior, makes total sense~ *nod nod nod*
It's just one of dozens rationalize opinion from internet regarding question 'Why Ministry of magic not ask help from other countries?' not hard fact from author. One of answers are comparing to realpolitik where wizarding realm view national sovereignty and not wanting foreign interventionism.
Hindsight is 20/20. People always complain about characters being dumb af during horror movies and then you have people IRL who still believe in astrology bullshit, that the Earth is flat or that vaccines cause autism. I've worked in retail and the people I've dealt with would make you realize real hard that there is a reason IQ averages at 100. 4 out of every 10 people are stupider than the average. More than a third of Earth's population is relatively stupid. Moldymort having aptitude for social skills and magical nonsense doesn't make him a good logical thinker at all.
Wasn't there a scene where two Death Eaters were outside of Order of the Phoenix hideout waiting to ambush anyone leaving? They know where the location is but cannot get inside because they didn't get the info from a Secret Keeper. When the SK died, the hideout gets immediately attacked. Have been too long though, maybe wrong...
Voldemort is truly dumb and he is also not scary to boot just another scary bald guy that's it.if he had to kill harry all he had to do was take a polyjuice potion and transform into draco malfoy and finish him off at school in the woods or hogsmeade. I think Dolores Umbridge was more of a proper villain she hurt harry with a freakin quill and all she did was tell harry Boy it's my way or highway now choose and it worked she scared the shit out of them
