Question Am I the only one that prefers a bromance over harem collecting mc?

I hate mcs that end up with a harem I prefer mc having super close male friends that we all think he’s gay for

 

Yes, I'd rather the MC be surrounded by a harem of females than males, and I don't even like harem as a genre.

Most male friendships seems to take on a weird dimension in web novels. In CNs, it be like "Hello, stranger! Let's swear an oath of brotherhood" while in KRNs there seems to exist some eerie sexual tension in male friendships; Fujo-bait has ruined far too many Korean novels for me.

 

You're not the only one. Honestly, I would like to read a novel filled more of platonic close relations than romance. Do you have any suggestion on those?

Bromance is really important for the plot. Can't live without bromance.

 

I really enjoy bromance in novels and anime, they always seem to be written more real and likeable. And I enjoy pretty much everything over harem novels, so no, you're not alone :')

although, i did get bored after 3rd vol i think....

 

it written well, they can be great. Unfortunately, most of those i've came across in novels either are like 0-100 quick and nonsensical or they're written seemingly as creepy as possible for obvious fujo-bait. fujo-bait, in my reading experience, tends to be much worse than super-quick CN bromance.

 

Its always someone willing to die for MC as his 'brother' but never the other way around lol

 

1. Read Tsubasa they're all bromance since elementary school till take over the world
2. Read naruto, I wanna write he and sasuke could be together as couple, logic - read the manga he said and cared about sasuke more than hinata, sakura, and all characters
3. Read doraemon, nobita in manga, movie, anime, all surrounded by male friends who went on journey in many world (movie) or slice of life (manga and anime)

Whatever else I can say about the novel (slow and rather boring, first arc is too drawn out) Infinite Bloodcore has a thing like this.

A pair of side characters, the older brother is stronger cultivator ( warrior, its xuanhuan) and morally okay and decent even, the younger is weaker and an absolute rat. The younger so far was trapped in a web by huge spiders who would have eaten him.

He calls for help ( okay so far, right?), lies to MC about their numbers ( and totally omits the stronger leader), runs away instead of fetching the MC his dropped weapon, swears eternal loyalty after MC got out, killed the leader spider and returned with its spearish legs as weapons, serves until a new threat/pinch appears, runs away and guilts his brother into abandoning others ( there was some dying wish from a caretaker for the older one to look after the younger) and finally after his brother is fatally wounded, carries him for a day in the dessert until he gets stressed and gets tempted to kill his older wounded brother for water/blood and food/flesh.

Tldr - chronic backstabber syndrome younger bro fucks over everyone who helps him, appears honorable when all is well, betrays again in a pinch, guilts the older upstanding brother into shitty acts and gets so angry with the older brother who always took care of him after merely carrying said big bro ( who got ko'd saving lil shit's life) for a mere day ( despite having some cultivator physical boosts, so this is spoiled) and fantasises about killing him and using him for sustenance, aka becoming a cannibal. So it's the classic one side is rotten, the other gold/at least silver.

 

Well, I tend to prefer to read about platonic friendship over romance, so that would include bromance I guess, although it would also include female friends as well.

By the way, the minute you consider it a bromance, it's gay. Not saying it's bad, but it's definitely gay.

Can't guys just have normal friendships with each other? Y'know, sometimes be jerks, rip each other off, sell each other out if it means a chance of getting laid, but if the other guy's in trouble still drop everything to help him?
