    ...rant warning...
I have found a few stories now that I have decided to put down and drop reading even though I was hooked. They, the writer, seemed to think that it was a great idea to axe all the current characters and start a new story in the same universe, mid story... WHY? If you have super well developed characters why replace them? I don't mean like killing one of the characters, I mean abandoning all the characters with no explanations. Do they expect people to magically approve/empathize with the new characters that we don't know? What about the characters we have come to love and pick up the book expecting to get more of them! Also the excuse of, "but you didn't give them a chance is bs", they had a chance in a non existent transition to sell me on that. But wait... oh that right there wasn't one (sarcasm)! I get it if there is at least a break in volumes to explain the jarring plot direction, but pls add prolog with at least some hint of explanation!

    These are amateur unedited works.
    You should expect this.
These are mass-produced conveyor belt novels.

R R Martin takes years to write 50 chapters and they do so in one day with these webnovels

I don't remember the novel, but all I know was that 300 and something chapters in the main character loses his powers of magic and has to switch to being a swordsman I think a few of the characters in the story who were very likable died too it was a real shit show.

At least it isn't like a certain novel in RoyalRoad that made the MC suddenly gay for no reason.
your mistake was reading published western fantasy novels that aren't at least 15 years old with a few exceptions.

If it's a light novel then I can see why. Most of them are below average especially because at that time 90% of them are harem battle fantasies.

yea most japanese light novels aren't that good even if they don't have harem factor.
