Have you ever come across a novel that has a horrible synopsis that makes the novel seem horrible then read it and realise it’s actually great but synopsis just made it seem bad? Or when it’s a joke synopsis that tells you basically nothing about the storyline at all?

Although the synopses of many xianxia leave themselves open to multiple interpretative possibilities...

their contents do not even come close to being as deep, unfortunately. :blobpeek:

I hate when the story deviates from the title, like Coiling Dragon

this is why we rely to reviews (y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)(y)

Yes, have read some of them. Usually I would see the genres and tag before read novel, rarely read reviews or spoilers unless I dropped novel or too lazy to continue reading them

Yes! Like Little Mushroom, the summary was so light hearted and sweet and cute and then the story was just like :blobsob::blobsob::blobsob:

If the synopsis doesn't attract me, I give up on the novel right away. My reading time is limited, so I'm not gamble on it on a story whose author doesn't even know how to write a synopsis.

Like, it's not easy to do it, but it's the 3rd most important aspect of your book (1st being cover and 2nd being title), it's the kind of thing you just shouldn't allow yourself to fail at.

I think that it's sort of dumb for someone to be misled by a synopsis on NU. And that's because there are no synopses on NU! Even the label in the book information section calls it a description and a description is not a synopsis. It should also come as no surprise that the material that this description is pulled from isn't a synopsis either. So where does this idea come from? Do people really not understand what a synopsis is?

I dislike the poetic descriptions that don't actually tell you anything about the novel.

Except sometimes a novel got good rating but almost all the reviews are bad. So confused :notlikeblob:

    its strange that sometimes the synopsis is even worse than it should be, it causes me to skip through a lot of good novels ;-;

I've pretty much given up on depending on the synopsis' at this point. I'll google reviews and ask questions on different forums if I find one that looks good, or read 10 chapters to get a general feel of it before deciding whether or not to keep reading it. Sometimes I'll try and edit the preexisting descriptions to be more in line with the plot but most of the time I just leave a review and hope that it'll help.

I've read a few with synopses that look like the novel will be really funny and then once I read them, I get punched in the gut with angst. Don't regret it, but goddamn was I unprepared for the amount of tragedy that occurred in the novels. The synopses weren't exactly misrepresentating what happens either, it was just the tone of them implied more humor than I actually got. And it's also why I don't judge books by their summaries anymore cause you just never know what's gonna happen before reading it.

That's why I rely entirely on the title of the story. No need for a good synopsis when the title is a paragraph long and does a good job telling what the story is about.

Has anyone else noticed how many of the novels focused between a single couple has something like the following as the synopsis?
"He is the black belly imperial Prince
She is the cold hearted phoenix mt. tai bandit
    He is....
    She is....etc"

I noticed it when I was doing bulk additions of novels into my "I don't want to see this ever again" filter list.
