I just read whatever seems interesting to me. I don’t look at the reviews or the ratings. I just look at the title, cover, and description. If it looks like it is interesting, I read it. If I don’t think it seems interesting, I don’t read it.

Series Ranking shows Popularity and Activity based on different time intervals.

I also take into consideration the novel's translation status. If it's completed, there's no problem. If the translation is active, that is also fine, too. But I am less keen on reading a novel that has its translation or its writing on hiatus, because once I catch up to the most recent chapter, there is not much else I can do afterwards.

Mostly I'd consider the genre, synopsis and reviews. I don't mind about the low rating usually

hmm~ true most people just rate it based on their interests not on how objectively good/bad it is

Haha~ everyone is entitled to his/her interests, no one is gonna judge your tastes

Reviews and rating are important when you have little time for yourself.

I guess personal interest would be the biggest factor in getting me interested to read, and reviews would be the biggest factor in me deciding not to read it. Mediocre or good reviews, I'd still read it if its got my personal interest. Only bad reviews would make me avoid it. So I guess those two would be it, in that order.

I read novel mostly based on description if it is matching my personal interest i'll give it a try :blobsmilehappyeyes:

But mostly i didn't have a specific reason to read and pick novels randomly. For translated novel i usually picked the completed one, or buy chapters (if the raw is accessible) and do my own MTL.

Reading reviews have always turned me off reading novels that I would otherwise have enjoyed, so now I just read based off description. At most I just quit if I don't like it.

When i usually click on a title i'll check its name and cover, scroll down a bit for its genres and then scroll to its description.
Sometimes the description is too flowery or just overall lacking and i will need more to figure out what the story is even about, so i'll scroll back up to check the tags.
Then if everything seems good i'll check the reviews. If all is still a green light, i'll then check the chapter count, both translated and in total.
Still a green light? Then its go time baby!

Previously when translator have their own websites, its easier to decide coz i follow translator whose taste i like.

Now i need to check the description to figure out the story, and some reviews

By far the main reason for me to pick a book is because something about it piques my interest. Some times this is the subject matter, but there are other reasons like a particular writer I like or a recommendation from a particularly trustworthy source.

Of the other choices in the poll, I find the reviews to be almost completely useless. Sometimes I'll go through them to spot landmines, but I've never picked up a book because of a positive review. Ratings are just straight up turbotrash. They're so unreliable and bad that I can't think of a single good reason to even look at them. It's sort of sad to see so many people put such faith in them.

I think this thread is a good example of how bad online polls are. I know for a fact that a lot of people will pick up books because they are popular. Books that get popular do so for a reason, and it's extremely common for such books to pick up new readers because they're also able to generate a lot of buzz and interest. Name recognition is super important for this kind of thing, and a poll that can't reflect this tells us a lot about how useful it is.
