Dean also told Reina about Cruller Donut, a simple dish with sugar sprinkled above it. Speaking about the devil, a donut seller passed near them and Reina finally have a taste of it... and felt familiar. She wondered she ate that food when she was Eugene. Bonita was happy and ate her share, same as mr. kind knight. <both of Reina and Eugene's memories are not clear, but Reina's memory dominated her brain at this moment> Suddenly Bonita diverted Reina's attention. She pointed at a big tent owned by a wandering troupe. The "Birth of the Star" celebration is nearing and the troupe will perform a drama about Bendicion(?). It's the name of the god in the religion in the empire. Bonita wanted to see the performance and Dean also add the fuel to the fire...meanwhile Reina just looked at the tent and then the holy temple with a dry look. She doesn't believe in God after her plea was rejected by the temple. Damian and Peter (the deacon) were in the office. They were busy sorting the information regarding the kidnapping incident and Damian started to get frustrated. Peter then brought up another topic : how about the reward for Reina Bolton? Damian actually already thought about that. he wanted to give money to Reina, but he knew that it will be risky because Reina doesn;t have a power to protect her assets and it is not wise to give her the cash. So he thought about another things : helping Reina to build more power, and there is another problem : Winternight Duchy never had a benefactor before, and Reina was the first person who helped them and protected Estelle. It's just a matter of time before Reina's information circulated in the empire, and Damian must keep her close. Reina finally bought dresses and other necessities for both her and the daughter. They returned to the manor and found out that there is a new arrangement for them. Spoiler: A Gift for A Brave Child Reina, Bonita, and Dean just when Peter told them that Reina must move from the employee quarters. Peter guided her to the main residence, and showed them a lavish room... decorated as a house. The room has separated bathroom and other furniture. Reina didn't really understand why the Duke gave this gift, and went when Peter informed her about "another gift" which will be shown directly by Duke Winternight tommorrow. Bonita touched the bed and asked if the mattress is made from clouds. Bonita also turned on the faucet and amazed when she saw hot water running and fill the bathtub. She asked Reina to take a bath with her. Bonita asked "how long are we going to stay in this room?". Bonita already felt that she didn't belong to this room, and she knew that she is from a poor family. <POOR BABY I WANT TO HUG HER AAAAAAAAAAAAA > Reina tried to comfort her daughter, and said that this room is a gift from the Duke for Bonita, the bravest child in the empire. Thankfully, Bonita believed her mother's word and emphasized that she was not afraid and crying. Bonita fell asleep fast, while Reina arranging her things. There is some cruller donuts left and Reina put it beside the bed. Next Day Both are overslept , and Damian entered the room without knocking the door. He caught Reina and Bonita in the middle of getting ready lmao. Bonita still half asleep but already dressed and Reina feed her the yesterday's donut to appease her daughter. Damian eyed the mother and daughter with envy. He tried to carry Estelle but the child always seems uncomfortable. Damian started to guide them through the mansion corridor, and Bonita was carried by Reina all the way. Damian asked if Bonita is too heavy, but Reina just laughed and said that her daughter is not too heavy and she already used to lift two bucket of water everyday. Damian stared at her with dubious look, he didn't really know that a woman like Reina is able to lift TWO buckets. Reina didn't told him the full truth, tho : that she can lift jumbo sized bucket lol. They arrived in the main hall and all of the servants and mansion staffs already gathered there. Damian declared that Reina Bolton and her daughter is now under the protection of the duke and no harm shall come to them. Damian proceed to show them the next gift, but Bonita became tired of too much walking. Damian snatched Bonita before Reina can and the poor kid started to get scared and uncomfortable . Damian asked if Bonita is uncomfortable and finally Reina tried to help to adjust Damian and Bonita's position so both are comfortable. Damian finally spits what he really wanted. He asked Reina to help him to get close to Estelle . Finally they arrived in the dining room, and Estelle joined them and they ate together. Unfortunatelly, somehow Reina got a massive hiccups but she managed to guide Bonita to use fork and fill her plates with food. After the chaotic meal, Damian sent the kids to play and proceed with his main agenda : discussing about Reina's reward. Damian explained that he prepared some support and cash as a reward but he wanted to help reina to build a more stable position in the society. It's hard to give a title to a woman, and too much cash can be a hinder if Reina became another target of terrorist. Damian learned it the hard way because he became the duke in a young age and struggled. Seeing that Reina didn't eat much, Damian offered her some snacks and tea. Reina tried a sandwich with blueberry sauce. Eugene can recognize the taste but... unfortunately Reina never ate Blueberry, which leads to... Spoiler: Abandoned Daughter a massive pain. Reina fell down and had difficulties to breathe. She struggled for oxygen and finally lost consciousness. She started to dream... About a little girl with pink hair and golden hair, a daughter from a woman who gave birth without a husband. The woman sworn that the man will return to marry her, and the villagers accepted her until she gave birth. The woman tried to love her daughter for 14 years but finally gave up and left. The daughter tried to beg. She will do well and not be a burden, but her mother dropped the hammer. the real reason why the mother left was : The daughter resembles the father. The mother left and the girl, Reina now lives alone. That day, "Eugene" entered her body. Reina's memory is pretty clear, and she thought that "Eugene" is a fantasy". Reina's consciousness returned after a while, and she heard a panic Damian and Peter. Reina never eat blueberry, so she doesn't know that she is allergic to it. at least the possibility of food poisoning is 0 Spoiler: Now now... another fool Papa Reina returned to her usual routine. Damian watched Reina, Estelle, and Bonita looking at the flowers in the garden with envy from the window of his office . Those three went under a gazebo. Estelle and Bonita watched Reina who made a flower crown and tried to imitate her (crushing the petals because of clumsiness). Both Bonita and Estelle wanted the flower crown but Reina only made one now. Reina offered to made another one so the girls went to pick another flowers. Damian approached Reina because he was curious what the hell the girls were doing (the gazebo roof obstructed his vision lololol). Damian saw the pitiful crown made by the children, and Reina explained that she is teaching the kids. Reina got an idea and taught Damian how to make a crown but... his result is worser than estelle's. Damian started to get the wild idea to buy the flower shops in the capital to secure the flower supply so he can train to make a beautiful crown for Estelle. The kids returned and saw the Gloomy Damian. Estelle shyly offered her father the crown she made (yeah, the crooked one), and Damian just when he hold the crown. the first handmade thing from her beloved daughter. then ... "DEACON!!!!, CALL THE WIZARD WHO SPECIALIZED IN PRESERVATION MAGICCCCC!!!!!!! . OH IT NEEDS A BEAUTIFUL FRAME TOO!!!!" Reina, Estelle, Bonita : In the end, they hung the preserved crown in Damian's office. Reina's crown went to Bonita's head. Reina offered to dry both of hers and Bonita's, as a memento for that day because she doesn't have money to pay for preservation magic. The next day, Damian worked as usual but he kept looking at the frame . He thought about what to give to Estelle in the "birth of the star festival", and thought about a good vineyard. Estelle can enjoy the wine in her debutante ball years later. We also learn that Damian surpress his father instict for a long time, He was overjoyed when his wife got pregnant, and spoiled her. He hoped to name the child "Benjamin" for a son or "Estelle if the baby is a girl". He waited and waited, and fantasizing about how he act as a father. unfortunately, shit happens and he lost both of her wife and child. Next is about the festival preparation. Poor Dean was ignored by Reina , and Reina asked the Duke to watch the troupe performance with Estelle and Bonita.

I feel like the mc might hv been the duchess.....what if after the duchess died she got reincarnated as Eugene and lived there before she became Reina? It's not completely impossible. And the fact that the duke loved his wife.....this makes it difficult for me to think just how will he fall in love with mc when he still has the duchess in his heart. Also considering Reina's missing memories as Eugene and the duchess's portrait in the novel cover.... So it would make sense for the mc to have been the ex duchess or if not then the duchess still might hv a major part in the story.
I'm hoping for some twists and turns too, but I don't hold high hopes since naver reviewers only gave this novel 2 stars for the characterization and 3 stars for the story, and they summarised that this novel was a story of how 2 single parents fell in love, the ML was supposed to love his first wife, then he warmed up to MC later.
Why? it's not like he cheated? And it's good to move on and heal from losing family members.. I don't get why he has to be faithful to someone dead.
