All fan translations are pirates because we don’t own official licenses. Novel translators are oddly possessive of novels like they are the author or something. We are all technically doing illegal stuff here. So what if there are aggregator sites like the traditional manga and anime aggregator sites that host content from multiple fan translator groups. Just means you are less likely to be found by license holding companies trying to dcma sue you. More aggregator sites the better.

I always go for the original sites is possible, however, they key word is 'possible.' For example, if I want to start reading a 1000+ chapter novel on webnovel, I will start with the free chapters there, transition to a pirate site to catch up, then proceed to 'pay' for new chapters as the come out on webnovel because paying for 1000+ chapters is not really feasible. This also applies to websites like wuxiaworld since they shut down any chapters from novels that have been completed, so pirate sites are useful in that case as well. The other case is if an original website is so greedy for ad's that it makes reading the novel unbearable, so you are almost forced into going to a pirate site.

Even if we are strictly speaking about just the novel pirating sites; I owe them a lot.

To give an example, it took me about a month to binge read through all 13 of the Overlord volumes. First of all, it's not even available on Play Store of my country (IN), Kobo sells them for roughly 1300₹ each (with DRM i.e. you can only read them on their app). So, for 13 books that's about +16000₹, which is still a couple of thousand rupees more than what my current phone costs.

Yeah, piracy is rightfully illegal, even immoral but what choice do p̶e̶o̶p̶l̶e̶ I have? Why do you think piracy exists in the first place? Why am I so greedy? Can you even imagine the amount of *free* hentai you've fapped to?

I wouldn't have been able to read many of the novels I have read without them... but because the forum rules say no promoting pirating, I will say I hate them with my guts... :blobpats::blobpats::blobpats:

Tho, when I really need to read a novel from webnovel, they are really welcomed....

Unless you are really rich, it's impossible to read a lot of novels in webnovel... The dolar is pretty high in the country I live, If the price is fair, I'm willing to pay, but webnovel sucks, so, I don't really care. If we are talking about translators like Deathblade, well, I don't feel like piracy is something cool, but when we are talking about the company Webnovel, I would say I love pirate sites. :)
They stopped translating some of my favorite novels, so, I f*ckin hate them. They just scam people by stop translating novels without saying anything, and I saw them 'closing' chapters that ppl already brought.

Nowadays, I can only satisfy my needs of novels because of the piracy, sadly.

Usually i found out about novels from pirated sites :blobsweat_2:, but i prefer to use any method necessary (if possible) to support the legal sites (and the author) even after i done reading the fan translations. i treated the free cash mission in kakaopage like a game and managed to get novel chaptes for free without getting a headache looking from aggregator sites.

i don't really against pirate sites, but sometimes the fan translator drama tired me that i drop novels or switch buying the raw myself and do my own MTL :blobjoy:

i stay away from webnovel tbh.. i can't afford the price and... well, i dislike that site lol.

Well, if pirate sites didn't exist, I would have never played most of my PS1 games for one. Nor would I have ever played any nintendo game whatsoever... Pirate sites definitely have their place, and I'm really happy they exist.

And well, even manga/novel pirates have their use... They're very useful for stuff like... Mangastream or Jasminisbox's death. I'd much rather read their releases on pirate sites over not reading them at all (Though of course, they were reuploaded to mangadex after 6 months... But then you have to remember that mangadex is currently down, so... Yanno... >.>).

Or like, some official translation sites only have their release available on their official app... Like, with no way of reading on desktop at all... I mean, seriously? You're forcing me to download a phone app and pay for a release to read a webtoon? No thanks. I'm gonna go to a pirate site and read it on my desktop.
I don't mind paying for content, but I'm not gonna pay for phone-exclusive content. I'm gonna read on my desktop and screw any company that tries to force me otherwise.

So... Yeah, pirates are fine to me. They have their downsides, like... Stealing free content and stuff, but they definitely have their pluses as well~

This is the main reason I am glad they exist. A large number of English translations have been obliterated. I don't know why people don't mention it more often when the subject of pirate sites comes up.
The things translators do to screw over pirate sites ends up being the only thing available to any reader after the translator disappears, so that's an unfortunate thing. I get why they want to do it (hatred of pirates) but, unfortunate for future readers. The pirates themselves don't care of chunks of the chapter are missing. Maybe a little less hatred would be nice... Just a strong dislike maybe?

Some novels in WN top 10 right now are originals, so you may be reading them as written by the authors themselves. Although they provide ED & PRs for these authors, I'm not sure if they'll re-do the early chapters.

I think it would be a bit hypocritical of me to say that I dislike/hate pirate sites because I also use them to access content I never would have gained access to otherwise. Aggregator sites are bad esp those who steal free translations, but when it comes to these issues it's much more important to stick to your own bottom-line. Although I use pirate sites (since fan-translations are mostly pirate sites as well) I just show my appreciation by donating to them and when I really like a story I go to it's original publisher and just buy all the chapters there even if I can't read it/I've already read it. There will be lots of takes regarding this issue and I think it's important to just know yourself.
