Discussion Non-Native English Speaker Card

Discussion in 'General Chat' started by Shizukani, May 14, 2021.

?

So, how often?

  1. Everytime I make a mistake/typo.

  2. Never! I don't care if I make a mistake. I'm a NNES anyway.

  3. I didn't even realize... >.>;

  4. I really need to register for one.

  5. I'm not a NNES but I still use that card a lot >:D

Hello! There should a lot of non-native english speakers(NNES)s here right?

Well, as a NNES (too long... :sweating_profusely:) myself, I am always tempted to pull out this card. (I used to, but I don't anymore)

Cause, although I think I'm pretty alright with english, I make a lot of mistakes in grammar or spelling. :sweating_profusely: And I don't have autocorrect too cause it's really annoying :blobcry:.

    So yeah, my questions are:

Are you a NNES? (I'm starting to associate this with a certain sea monster:hmm:)

Are you confident of your English?

How often do you take out your NNES card when you make a mistake? :blobowoevil: (Be honest :blob_coffee:)

Have you ever used your NNES card? How? When? Why? :blobcatcop: How could you?(jk)

    :blobtaco:

Hmm, I don't bring out the NNES card but I do give disclaimer about my English fluency... or even my general problem of having a hard time say what I want to say. I treat it as a personal problem so I could work on it little by little

I'm a native English speaker who only speaks English and even I'm not confident in my grammar or spelling and I don't even bother with punctuation

I'm an NNES but I have been speaking English for so long that I would be embarrassed at myself if I had to use it as an excuse.

As for using it as an excuse, if I used it in my country, I'd be laughed at because most people are NNES. And online, even if I do make a mistake nobody really cares.

I have come to discover that depending on your country of origin, the degree of NNES differs greatly. example, I think I have a solid grasp of grammar and relatively good spoken English but some forms of punctuation just elude me because it was never the focus of my English education.

my NNES card is typing 'me no speaki engrish' after someone points out a mistake to me. it serves as a humorous way to acknowledge my mistake.

.... I don't think anyone has ever pointed out a mistake of mine..... So I never needed to.....
And I'm not sure how good my English actually is.....
But nobody has ever said anything bout it so I don't care

For some reason, proper punctuation makes it seem, to me, that the other person is angry :blobrofl: So I usually don't use it too :blobsleepless:

When I was younger I used the NNES card a lot, since back then my grammar and fluency was really still quite bad haha. now that I'm older and more confident in my english knowledge, I rarely use that card anymore. I actually mostly use it today when I don't know about some cultural topics or misunderstand specific slang

I'm NNES, but while i do have a bit of confidence in my writing, I am completely not confident in speaking english, especially my pronunciation.

Also, since i rarely speak english, when I tried to, I always slurred my words. It was too embarrassing that in the end i would end up being silent instead.

This is probably the absolute opposite of what native English speakers feel. Talking comes quite naturally (To pretty much anyone in their native language) but when we write, we need to think about a lot of things that we don't need to while talking.

I didn't use that card because it is my MT and I've never condemned anyone who can't speak or write English fluently.
