Ch 30, my impressions so far: An absolutely amazing book by all standards. It's clear that the author put a lot of effort and thought into writing the story, making it as engaging, full of life and emotion as it is. It was a definite treat reading this.

You ever just read something with an interesting premise that even has good reviews and then once you actually read it, you end up getting something really messy that falls flat of the expectation you had when you started reading it? Cause that just happened with me when I was reading The Beautiful Villainess is My Wife [Transmigration]. The plot is confusing as fuck but basically the MC is an actress who has no luck and a plain girl next door face who finally got the role of a female third in the latest show she's going to start acting in. The show is an adaptation of a story where the male lead is an illegitimate child who comes back and takes over his mother's family while the female lead is a transmigrator with a heartthrob system that manipulates people into falling in love with her + gives her system props to help the male lead take over his rich family. The female third is the ex-girlfriend of the male lead who is an actress and gets blocked by the female lead because she wanted to get her out of the way. The male lead also has a half-sister who is the rightful heiress of her family who was born basically perfect with genius intellect and great physique and all that. She was fucked over real bad in the end where we don't know whether she lived or died. The MC dies in a car accident and ends up as the female third she was about to act as, except it was three years after the book ended and she was living real bad in a backwards place. The FL is the male lead's half-sister but she somehow ended up moving bricks on a construction site and has amnesia. The MC and FL had a one-night stand due to estrus (oh yeah this is an ABO setting) and the MC ends up pregnant. They get married and then live a fairly simple life until the MC recovered from her pregnancy and wants to fulfill her ambitions of being a successful actress. They move to the big city and that's where their life starts moving with the MC striving in her acting career while the FL recovers her memories with the help of her old friends she met in the city to retake what rightfully belongs to her. The plot was pretty interesting honestly cause the FL is kinda a herbo (female version of himbo) who genuinely really likes the MC and they get along well. The MC is also likeable with a firm personality and very ambitious and their roles are interesting too since the MC is an omega while the FL is an alpha yet they don't act like the stereotypical example of them. There's also some interesting commentary about the ABO system and the harsh discrimination omegas have to face and things like that. Really, I would enjoy this setting a lot if it weren't for the super fucking messy writing. The story jumps back and forth from past to present while also not being too clear about how the plot is advancing and spends too much time on certain plot points that just get annoying after reading through 100 chapters of it. I'm not sure if it's the MTL or what but it's genuinely annoying to read when certain parts just feel like the plot is dragging its feet. Spoiler There's a part where the MC gets pissed off at the FL for not telling her she got her memories back and wanting to divorce and that dragged on for way too long without them having proper communication to resolve the conflict. That "miscommunication/no communication" plot device just pisses me off and is so annoying to read that I had to quit reading there. Like sis. Sis please just fucking communicate with your wife like an adult instead of throwing a tantrum. It made me genuinely dislike the MC because it was just really dumb fucking drama where she refused to communicate with her wife who she admits she loves who was already planning to tell her she recovered her memories. Seriously, like, just fucking tell her you feel betrayed that she kept her memories a secret for so long and then actually communicate about how to solve that. Or, if she thinks it's truly irredeemable then be upfront about it instead of throwing a tantrum and literally injuring the FL by throwing shit at her face that made her need stitches??? Like it got to a point where I was thinking "is this fucking marital abuse??? Girl what the fuck are you doing??" Seriously, this isn't a slapstick comedy where that kind of injury is supposed to be seen as comedic. ALSO, I dislike it when parents stay together instead of divorcing just because of their children, but in this particular instance, I wish that was a bigger point? Like girl can you think a little bit about your child? Can you think a little bit about the love you've had since getting married? Can you not be like "well I'll just not think about what we've had up to now cause it'll make divorce harder." Bruh what do you mean by that?? Divorce is not a casual decision, and it's even less casual with how much trouble you have to go through to get your glands flushed and shit and the AO pheromone shit that needs to be fixed. The author just did such a bad job at justifying why the MC wanted a divorce so badly despite literally everything telling her she shouldn't be so casual about it and also just ignoring how much the FL cares about her. Like, at least let her articulate how hurt she was by being lied to and actually addressing it instead of her avoidance strategy where she honestly felt more like a scumbag than her wife did. It's kinda bad writing when the person being lied to acts in a way that feels way more scumbag than the actual liar. Anyways despite my complaints I still think it's an interesting plot and setting and if you want to give it a try and finish it where I couldn't, then go ahead. I would like to know the ending but my most hated trope is the "miscommunication" and/or "refuse to communicate" tropes that add drama for the sake of drama. It's also ABO so it's not like I'm that interested in completing it since I always reluctantly read that genre, not actively search for it.
The FL gets her revenge on the male lead and imprisons him since he's a dumbass who doesn't know how to handle business affairs. The transmigrated female lead tho, she was on the run after the male lead was dealt with and based on my understanding of that sort of plotline, she'll probs be back to confront the MC and FL. I was at chapter 100~ when that happened.

Okay so I haven't finished it yet and this is not the exact thing you're looking for, but Fall in Love with the Zerg Queen somewhat fits your description. The MC transmigrated into an ancient Chinese setting and experienced a life of pain. The FL, aka the Zerg Princess who'll become the queen, would sort've fit the "evil" label? She literally kills people by absorbing their blood and body through her tentacles she can grow. She does not give a shit about anyone's life except for the MC, so yeah... She doesn't go out of her way to do evil things though, but the MC does eventually fit that "pure evil" archetype. Spoiler She goes fucking crazy after certain events that happened, and ends up being a morally reprehensible person who kills people indiscriminately and doesn't care if they're innocent or not. She also takes revenge on everyone who wronged her previously, and they're pretty "extreme" methods that she uses? Tbh I don't mind and am in fact glad she dealt them enough revenge that matched what they made her go through. Some were a bit more than they deserved maybe, but like, they weren't likeable characters in the first place so I didn't mind. From the comments I've seen on the jjwxc, it doesn't look like she completely recovers her previous self so there's also that. The novel is pretty interesting with a blend of both ancient society and sci-fi with the Zergs and all. There's a touch of horror with how things pan out, but it's pretty interesting nonetheless. It might be a bit uncomfortable to read though cause the MC goes through a lot of shit that breaks her down to someone she'd hate if the past self saw who she became. This story is basically an answer to "how much can a good person take before they get pushed into evil?" The romance aspect was pretty nice, though there's some tragedy that happens in the middle. Honestly this novel is a test of patience and how much you can handle bad things happening to good people and then see good people become bad people themselves. It's kinda edgy if I really think about it, but edgy in an acceptable amount?

Anybody read mtl of how to live a comfortable life as an elf? I am intrigued by the idea of a modern setting with fantasy elements without a heavy plot, with mc having to handle her "real life" as an office worker (or a bank clerk, don't remember), but the last translation was literally last year with only 9 chapters.
