Question Why does many people like BL? ( no offense)

Ok most of BL lovers are women . And I am not saying this on all of them but maybe just few.

Its like reading shoujo but boys ....it may have the same plot like any other shoujo but the twist is ..rather than girl falling for inlove its a boy.

Also Danmei (chinese BL) has some good plotlines.. not just them falling inlove but also has some world lore and stuff..

So yeah~

Also as a single dog and who is tired of reading cliche tropes.

No reason. I find it more interesting than the usual BG romance. For me, at least. And I'm those rare guys who always reads BL and consume any media related to it.

Ahaha... BL novel target audience are female reader. And there is only a few minority who doesn't like BL. But majority are ok with BL.
In my personal bias, I like to read BL because of the angst, and the characters personal struggle. As BG relationship story you can get it in any other media including real life (its repetitive and boring). Some people like to fantasize about things what if change the gender what will happen blah blah...

And I am completely understood that real life gay relationship is not the same like how BL novel usually portray. For example the shou and gong relationship.

I think in the nutshell women generally like to see how our gong ML push down the shou MC And we have this desire to protect the Shou MC from the world. Thats why most BL novel MC are always from the shou pov, Very rare from gong. But such novel exist.

Also usually BL danmei have a very nice plot story.

This is my personal opinion who is married for 15 years with 3 kids. To this day my husband will rolls his eye whenever he saw me consume a BL story be it novel, manhua and donghua The men dont get it

I understand Fudanshi is exist but very small minority i think or worse is a closet reader haha.

I like BL bc I find it more interesting than any other BxG romance. Its not your any typical romance that you can read anywhere mostly writers/authors prefer BxG so we fujoshi want something new.

 

For the most part, they don't like it much. They aren't the target audience and the BL cliches are a bit too unrealistic for them to enjoy it.

You can try looking Bara up to see a bit about gay romance aimed at gay men.

as a fudan, it's pretty funny to read bl but sometimes you just need to relax and so i just read bl. at least bl is much realistic than harem

As a straight male i don't read BL but if i had to guess why it's popular i would say its the same reason why guys watch lesbian porn.

 

I read heavily in all genres and demographics, so BL just came kind of naturally? I guess I read more BL WNs than BG because the BL ones tend to be shorter, and I have no patience for anything above 200 chapters nowadays (unless it's a JP LN I've been reading for a long time, and even then... it depends). I'd read more GL but I have higher standards because it's a demographic I like more, while BL... is like comfort junk food for me, I guess? I can read absolute trash BL to the end while hating on it, but I can't with GL.

Villainess stories are also similarly junk food-esque for me, but since most of them are adapted to manga nowadays, I just read that instead. I prefer manga to webnovels since there's less abysmal description writing.

 

One reason I tend to like BL more than shoujo/josei romance because for some reason BL authors tend to put more effort into things like plot and action. As a girl who grew up watching shonen anime, I get drawn to BL because it's easier to find a mix between romance and action or grand scale plots. Like if I try and find a straight josei with action, word building, horror, character development, angst, powering up/become strong, life and death situations etc etc alongside the romance, it's a pain in the ass, but trying to find a BL with some of those elements is wayyyy easier. This isn't the only reason I like BL but it's one of the big ones I think?

 

As a straight male, I mostly avoid BL/Yaoi, yet sometimes a story seems good enough to read even if it is BL/yaoi.
I enjoy science fiction and am interested in artificial intelligence, so I read Quickly Wear the Face of the Devil, which I enjoyed.

 

Because I just like reading romance.

Love is love. Be it between a male and a female, male and male, female and female. And all other LGBTQ+ combination.

Besides the gender labels, basically I just enjoy reading a story between lovers, coupled with good plot and development.
