Discussion My life isn't slice of life

Slice of Life. The genre that I read when I want something simple. I most especially like novels about food and music. I kinda like entertainment related ones if they showed some acting at least. Anyway, one day, while sitting on a couch as usual, a thought came to mind. How come so many things happen in an SoL character? It may be simple little things but still, compared to my life... I feel like nothing is happening to my life

normal life is more monotonous sometimes

 

Nothing really ever happens for the most part in slice of lifes too

 

But slice of life has interesting supporting characters that make everyday life great, real life on the other hand may not have that.

 

Yeah, but that nothingness is somehow pleasant. Everyday gloomy- nothing is not entertaining
Like, somehow everything happens, but not really?

Or I have some wild expectations?

I don't think so...I mean, looking up novels that have the slice of life tag on NU, I notice that I didn't even think that most of them were slice of life. Like, I always thought TKA was mostly action, but nope, it's also slice of life. Well, there's grinding in that so I guess it makes a little sense. But how is Running Away From the Hero a slice of life? It's full of stuff happening!

Whatever...maybe my memories are just biased.

Sometimes I think of myself as the MC. I even have theme music.

And of course I’m the clueless MC.
In my head I run all those POV with coworkers. Which funny enough are mostly women. So I get a little bit of harem action. I have 20+hospitals.
All my interactions with my boss. Is well high level BOSS fights. Lol
The most humorous parts is when I accidentally say what I’m thinking. Than explaining. It’s funny, but awkward.

You can make your life as exciting as you want or as boring as you want. At least that’s what I think.

 

I agree. Something, I discovered in a little daily writting project of mine is that you could describe and view a monotonous day in different tones. Highlighting specific scenes is would also give you a flavourful version of what you thought was boring.

 

I came here to say that slice of life is only a "slice" of life. We beings of the real world get the complete package, including all the normal boring stuff for what it's worth....

 

I was thinking of that earlier. Slice of life is fun coz most sad stuff aren't included. No poor quality filler chapters as well such as communting or getting stucl in the traffic

 

Exactly, no endless draggy hours when they are at school or work, no times when they literally have nothing to do..... its like a compilation of the times when something is actually happening.

 

Sometimes when i see a line like "He was reading"
I always wonder how ironic it is that time could be compressed in a short statement

 

There's another pretty big problem that I've seen, there are fluffy ones filled with happiness and there are dark and depressing ones filled with sadness but there's almost no show that balances out both well.

Clannad is the only one that I can think of that has both, but S2 was so much more amazing than S1 that it blew away its entire impact.

 

You aren’t to protagonist that’s why it’s not your time yet to be involved with the world is slice of life when you are a father it will be your time to use your slice of life knowledge to be a wise sage that will guide your children on the path of the protagonist of slice of life if you fuck that up you can still try with the grandkids you’ll be able to stroke your long white beard in a sagely way too then so all’s good

 

I don't see anything happening in my life except few problems that get the spotlight in short term , tbh. These are nothing but trouble . And you are not the protagonist nor is everyone . The certified protagonists are prophets, president,war hero cause they cause impact on the world for a very long time and leave their name in history . And you aren't that . Just get married after dating your partner and settle down after traveling the world and call it a life

 

It's because a lot of us are sitting on our a** at home most of the time, of course, nothing would happen.
