    completely depends on the genre.
I would read it if it was the start of a supernatural horror/ ghost story. if it was the start of some reader abuse novel or an angsty romance than no.

You know you’re screwed when your psychiatrist tells you “maybe life isn’t for everyone”. Give him around of applause cause my guy, Larry Brown won against his psychiatrist, but yes I would read it out of curiosity.

Well, since i picked it up in the first place with intentions of reading it, I at least the basic premise of the book. So see no reason why a random quote would dissuade me from reading further.

In the beginning, the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I don't buy/read a book by what's written on the first page. I give the synopsis a quick read, and decide on the spot if it's decent enough to garner my attention or not. Hardly anytime am I influenced by the first page author notes or quotes.

Good line, but I was burned badly enough by Vollman's "You Bright and Risen Angels" to distrust first lines.
To paraphrase the opening: All because they found my friend's skull doesn't mean that he is dead.

No. I'm only interested in escapism, romance, happy ends, and horrors. I've got enough depressing reality. And I'm aware even more depressing reality exists elsewhere in the world. And human life itself is depressing as long as we're bound to our organic death-trap shells.
