I don't really understand why it's called that either. But it stuck and it's easy to remember, so I guess that's fine. I'd take that over "Being aware of the LGBTQ+ community month", any month. So... I guess it's not that big of a deal?

Right, we're filled with heavenly virtues, not sins like pride. No wonder religious fanatics say they go to hell. :blobpopcorn_cool::blobshh:

I forget it exists. There's only twelve months in a year, but everyone wants to make a month "_______ Month". At the beginning, the method worked and people were invested. Now, the "______ Month" method isn't special anymore and people's passion for it died down.

A smaller scale example: It's like if a national day off celebrated veterans, curing polio, chicken curry, and the color blue. Then someone decides to add a religious celebration into the mix too. Cool, but the day has gotten so packed that people have stopped caring about everything except that it's 'a day off'. That's what it feels like for the "_____ Month" system just, of course, on a month scale.

For Pride Month, I have no special thoughts one way or the other.

Basically a month to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues. People do parades about it and stuff like it.

I think it is important that it exists, but I don't like the usage of the word pride in it. Hence this thread.

But yet when I see things like Pride Month and Mardi Gra, it seems less about educating and improving acceptance of alternate forms of sexuality and more like them trying to slap the faces of the hetrosexuals, like "IN YOUR FACE ASSHOLES!!!" rather than getting them to accept LGBTQ.

    Dont really care.

Be gay/les/BI or whatever you want.
JUST DONT FUCKING SHOVE IT TO MY FACE. Be what you want but dont bother others of what you want to be.

    P.S
Just got home from work and some tranny wants me to be a gentlemen to give up the seat near the bus door. Looked at "it" from head to toe before i said no since "it" was so manly enough.
Sorry not sorry. Wont give up my seat to a manbeast just because it wears a skirt and fake boobies.

    P.S(2)
Got into a fight with it and we got brought to the nearest police station.
Manbeast got talked by the police while me got home safely escorted by the police.

Its annoying, i dont mind them, its their life but its another thing altogether when im shoved LGTGwhatever in the face and forced to accept it. Its all political, nothing else. There is no Straight/Normal month right? Why there is not a "Im normal and im pride about it" month? also its ridiculous that its called pride month, what there is to be pride about? that you have special needs? i have seen that LGBT from the LGTB people over half of them had been sexually assaulted or mistreated before. If you dont believe me, i welcome you to search about it in google and if you are LGTB think back, was i abused sexually or introduced into that stuff when i was young?. If not then you had good luck

Which is kind of self destructive since it breeds animosity. Then people will hate you not because they are homophobic but because you are a horse's rear end. But then they'll say it's because you "oppress" them, hence it becomes a self fulfilling lie. Seen it happen before twice in this year alone, homosexuals trying to step on someone else's head and when called out on it, blame "homophobia" when it was just their arseholish behavior.

I like it, in part because there can be a lot of erasure if you're one of the more "invisible" LGBT demographics (i.e. bisexual, nonbinary, asexual). For instance, I'm bisexual but in a straight relationship, and most people who know me IRL would never suspect that I'm LGBT. It's also not really professional to randomly bring these kinds of things up on a regular basis, so having an opportunity to discuss it fairly meaningful... especially since most of my IRL friends only see half of me.

Being LGBT in some ways can also be isolating. For instance, it can feel like you're the only person in the entire world who's nonbinary. IRL, it can be hard to fit into certain communities if you don't fit a certain profile (i.e. not gay/lesbian enough, or not trans enough), so for years I never really felt like I fit in anywhere.

When you discover that other people are like you, it's incredibly empowering. People casually mentioning that they can relate to feeling X, Y, or Z -- or even people (like parents) casually mentioning that they support X, Y, or Z -- can give people a lot of confidence if they are a minority. For me, the entire premise of pride is being able to see that being LGBT really not that uncommon, especially since a broad swath of many LGBT people are invisible most of the time.

As for "pride" as terminology -- it's an inversion on a lot of shame that many LGBT people grow up with. Being able to grow past feeling ashamed about ones identity/sexuality is sort of a goal of the movement.

:blob_plusone: As far as I know, it's for raising awareness and promoting acceptance, since I think there was some pretty intense discrimination like... a few decades ago.

I'm not really involved in it myself, but I guess the 'pride' is like... just promoting healthy self-confidence and self-like, instead of shame (?) that some people might have felt back then when their orientation wasn't as 'socially acceptable'? :blob_tilt:

I mean, it's assumed that everyone's heterosexual, so it's more like the default.

Pretty much everyone assumes that I'm heterosexual, and 99% of the time I never bother to correct people. Like it's not worth trying to emphasize something that could possibly disadvantage me.

Raising awareness is good. The problem is when they decide to shove that into everything and believe is a superior thing to do. That is when people actually start to care less about the whole thing.

Mmmmmmmmmm, that makes plenty of sense~

I guess I just don't like seeing pride as opposed to shame... Mmmmm... Or rather, it is an opposite, but I prefer thinking of it on a spectrum? Like... Just because I'm not ashamed of my sexual orientation, it does mean I'm proud of it either. There is definitely a middle term between those two.

*hugs* I agree with everything else in this post though!
