Have you ever wondered why incest seems so common in Japanese media? I did. And I looked a bit into it. Some of the things I found were astounding, to say the least.

    Excerpt from https://es.scribd.com/doc/199246792/The-Prevalence-MotherSon-Incest:

"What is the most common problem you have to deal with?" I asked the young Japanese psychoanalyst.

"Incest," she replied immediately, "Japanese boys have their first experience of sex with their mothers."

After more than ten years of studying and living in Japan, this discovery came as a shock to me. I telephoned another old Japanese hand to tell him the news. "I have known that for years," he replied. "A Japanese Samaritan once told me all Japanese men are literally motherfuckers!" WHERE SOME SONS DO HAVE THEM » 18 Jan 1997 » The Spectator Archive

Satoru Saito, head of the sociopathology department at the Psychiatric Research Institute of Tokyo, doubts that mother-son incest is any more common in Japan than elsewhere. But, he says, "emotional incest" between mothers and their sons is almost a defining feature of Japanese society - "The entire culture has this undertone".

It is a vicious circle, says Dr Saito. Women who rarely see their husbands except late at night when they come home after drinking with workmates automatically funnel their emotions towards their children, particularly towards their sons.

The sons grow up with over-indulgent mothers who smother them in affection, preventing them from developing emotional independence. The sons accept the power their mothers have over them, and, when they begin dating, they naturally look for another woman to mother them.

This maza-con (mother complex) is a ritual complaint of young Japanese women seeking a husband. But as soon as they get married, they inevitably transfer the emotions that their husbands will not absorb to their children. And so the cycle perpetuates itself.

"The Japanese male does not like responsibility," says Dr Saito. "He is always controlled by someone else: his mother, his teacher, his boss in the company. I call this the ofukuro (pouch) function - he seeks to be protected in a maternal pouch all the time. We call our school the 'mother school'; employees regard their company as some kind of mother figure."

The mother complex even extends to the state, whose organs of control - police, tax inspectors, railway guards - treat citizens like precious children, in constant need of surveillance and gentle chiding.

"A train is coming. It is dangerous, so please stand behind the white line on the platform," is the recorded message that is played every time a train comes into a subway station in Tokyo.

It continues after work. Men who do not want to face up to the responsibility of the father/husband role will delay going home by taking refuge in a hostess bar, where they find the mama-san (bar-mother) and her female cohorts who treat their guests as overgrown schoolboys, pouring their drinks, lighting their cigarettes and listening to their complaints about work and, with mock disapproval, to their dirty jokes. Out of Japan: Mother love puts a nation in the pouch

Wow. That’s quite something. At first I thought it stated back to the ancient times (or clan) where some families wanted to keep their blood pure so they indulge in relationships with either their cousins or step-siblings.

Tq for the info. Now I know it's not only an ancient time only but even modern world now. If I can be honest, I feel a little jealous about this. But only jealous, never will done it.

It's also a part of the loli issue, with children being emotionally burdened by adult relationship issues and becoming stagnated in their growth, not all mommies will be 'nice' when they're drunk or looking for a 'husband' in the wrong place.

I wtf-ed at the incest part till I read it was emotional, not physical. Anyways I somewhat doubt this article because it sounds like a normal case of babying. Other countries do it too, dunno why they’re phrasing it as if moms want to fuck their sons. And the guys who visit hostess bars instead of spending time with their wife and kids are scum.

It sounds extremely Freudian when there are plenty of sociological factors that could probably contribute into a better theory.

Idk. Just as someone who studies psychology and sociology, I would rather see the actual research data and more importantly how that data was acquired before promoting more psychoanalytic theories that apply to societal and cultural stuff when psychoanalytic theories and practice deal with more of individualistic or extremely specific stuff.

I’m mostly saying there are probably better and more realistic theories.

Correct, it would instead be 'Codependency ' in western psychology, except incest as a theme sounds more interesting i guess.

Thats quite the found, but like you wrote this happen in other countries often too. So its hardly only in japan.
In a documentary i saw years ago about unique places in japan, there was a village whose tradition involved having the mothers teach their sons sex as a way to guide them and boosting their confidence among others things. I also was speechless about the penis festival XD.
Im not joking, search "penis festival japan" on google

You would think this kind of event would only take place in some kind of fictional ecchi doujinshi created by a degenerate mangaka who uses porn as an alarm clock.

    But no.

This is so unbelievable! I even feel like throwing up As the author of the question, I was also curious to know why incest is so commonly seen in Japanese manga and now knowing why I feel total revulsion, as I thought it only happened in the minds of the authors of this manga just a perverted fantasy. of them , but it turned out to be something normal . Based on the society of the country in which I was born and raised, incest is an abominable act and considering that it is with an adolescent child it can be considered a crime. About the fact that I'm talking about women missing their husband because they always come home drunk, so out of all the options, do they choose to have a "sexual relationship" with their child? And the husbands do they know that their wife has this kind of relationship with the children or is this act kept secret between mother and child? I don't understand how this can fit and be so normalized by Japanese society! Is it all for the culture?

Honestly, that doesn't sound like serious research on the part of the guy who wrote that article. He sounds like he asked around, thought for 30 mins and then drew the picture based on his preconceptions and thoughts about Japan

    ..............................................................................GOD DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????? SO THAT'S WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always wondered why the majority of the "normal" or "common" japanese MC is so much of a pussy or it takes them a lot of time to grow a pair of balls to confess to a girl(woman, love interest in general) besides being denser than a piece of osmiun(although the denseness is a result of them lack of confidence), recognize their feelings(it usually takes like 1-235 or so chapters for this to happen) or are afraid of getting in a relationship(to be more specific the mountain of things that have to happen for the damn MC to get the courage to want to be in a relationship with the heroine...aside of the author shenanigans)............as well why there are many jap. housewives who aren't that against cheating or rather why there is huge number of hentais(manga, OVA, etc) of housewives of normal office jap. workers cheating(mainly due to being sexually frustated) as well NTR and incest(mainly with the sister(older, younger), mother or aunt).(although i remember reading the NTR being popular in with jap. is due to masochism)
Geez this explains it practically all.......

Considering the confident tone of the young Japanese psychoanalyst, I wonder if she's already prepared to have sex with her future son. :blobpeek: The Japanese Samaritan is also pretty suspicious, did he include himself within that quote? :hmm:
