    Pretty much.
And can swordsman just sneak up and stab the magician?

Swordsman is a melee fighter, so how far apart they are is a factor, even assuming the swordsman has a movement technique and/or could shoot out sword intent.

As for the mage, the main question is if they know how to use their OP powers. If not, then it's game over. If they do know, but require a lot of set up time, especially if it needs to be uninterrupted time, for incantations or forming magic constructs, then it depends on how well they can get and maintain distance. That's assuming they can use ranged attacks.

That's for a straight up fight. If the mage can open with crowd control spells and barriers, the swordsman may have some difficulty. We need some clarification on what type of skills the swordsman has besides strength and agility.

Not really cause his magical shield will protect him since he can use that but that's if the swordsman skill can actually penetrate his shield

If its experience alone, definetly the swordsman. If power scale is comparable and how broke the magician is, magician.

If the OP don't explain sht about their powerscales, how can we even compare them if we don't even know how much differences they have.

Its like telling us math but you instead bring up calculus to an elementary school and think some random ass smart kid would know an answer even a university student would probably not even understand what problem they are solving.

But to humor the OP, basically in a fight. It would be a swordsman would be superior if using any of the following: enviroment, distance and arrogance. for the magician, Powerscale, distance and versatility.
Okay. But it still doesn't explain much however I now have a rough scale to compare it now.

A swordsman can exploit a magician's weakness and personality and since the magician heavily relies on his OPness, it would leave an opening to which a swordsman can exploit.

However, I don't know the magician well. is he smart or dumb. if dumb, easy win for the swordsman since he can exploit and use his strength the greatest but if the magician is smart, he will likely use his advantage and brute force his win by sheer overwhelming power and powerscale to his advantage.

Magician would win!! Wasn't there some saying like... "one strong man > ten martial artists (raw strength > technique)" or something? If magician is truly OP, magician would win!!

depends on the settings to get power, if this is a world fully reliant on mana and the swordsman possess none, then he would have no chance at breaking through the shield.
but i think your point was rather who would win between a stupidly OP character and a stupidly skilled character.
    usually, i go around :
a third for power, a third for knowledge, a third for skills for magicians.
a third for power, two thirds for skills for swordsmen.
so a skilled swordsman would need to have to have two thirds of a knowledgeable + unskilled magician's power in order to beat him, and one third for an unknowledgeable + unskilled one.

If the mage can cast a barrier, they win. The swordsmaster won't be able to break the barrier, and now the mage can do whatever they want.

If the mage can fly, they also win due to getting out of reach.

If the mage can create a big wall surrounding the swordsman, they win too btw.

I'd say the odds are stacked heavily towards the mage, but the starting distance between them and the cast time of the spells could switch things on favor of the warrior.

The real question is: Who is the MC of this universe?
    or
What does the plot demand to happen?

Joking aside, I think who wins entirely depends on whether the magic system is a hard system or a soft system. Hard magic systems have heavily defined rules so knowing and understanding those rules will let you know who would win pretty much. Soft magic systems can much do whatever they want because the rules of magic are more or less undefined, so if it really came down to it, a soft magic user could win for no other reason than because the plot said so.

In other words) it just depends on the realism of the world in question and what system of magic that the world uses and how said system is implemented :cookie:

I’d say a skillful sword master.

Someone could be the most talented speech-writer in history, but if they had no mouth and no way to write it down, they’re unable to convey their talent. Same with a clueless OP magician— they could have all the cheats in the universe, but if they didn’t know how to use them, what’s the point? In this case, they’re nothing more than a bulked-up toddler. I think any swordsman with a little bit of experience would have no problem winning.
