Hello, I have been a pretty avid light novel reader for a while now, and have semi-recently started exploring the MTL side of this hobby. I've recently read a few amazing MTLs that I happily donated days of my life towards. One that really blew me away was "genetic specialist in spiritual qi era". This novel and a couple of others were, in my opinion, better than the vast majority of professionally translated novels(my top 5%). I am uninformed in this area but I think that there are some amazing novel raws that haven't been professionally translated because of licensing problems or other issues, which has lead to some beautiful novels being hidden in the debts of the MTL sites. Do you have any novels that are criminally underrated because they're only MTLs, would love to hear anyone's opinions and recommendations. (please leave the novel's name, brief description of the novel, and then just tell me why you loved it.) I don't know know if this is the right place to ask, as most or all of these will not be listed on this site ( I assumed it was appropriate because people discuss novels on Royal Road)
Desperate times call for desperate measures man Reincarnation paradise Doomsday Wonderland ISSTH before translations I am not demon kongs lackey And so mich more
Thanks for you're response! I have read All of your recommendations other than "I am not the demon king's lackey", I read it under the title of "I'm Really Not The Demon God's Lackey" but dropped it for some reason. The description seems good, and I can't remember what I dropped it for, so ill add it to my spreadsheet of what I'll be reading.
I've only read legend of the Black Dragon Devouring the Stars and Game of the World Tree. There comes a point where you no longer have any brain cells left to lose.
Yea I read "Game of the World Tree" a hundred chapters in, before realizing that "I am the God of Games" does the same trope so much better. Would you recommend "legend of the black dragon devouring the stars"? I have read many other world hopping novels that were under par.
God of Games does do it much better, but it's discontinued at 404 chapters. Legend of the Black Dragon devouring the stars can be considered above average for a world hopping novel, but the quality falls steadily and I dropped it halfway through.
Most of the novels that I like are just not fully translated. translated too slowly or I just can't wait. Other cases are if the novel isn't translated al all and I've heard that they were good and wanted to give them a try. My English hasn't degraded much so that's good. You mtld I’m Really Not The Demon God’s Lackey? How was it,
The first couple arcs of “You Plan to Kill Me With Meng?” in MTL are amazingly accurate in translation. Unfortunately… everything past about arc 3/4 is extremely hard to understand. There’s two sides to every coin
. . . as someone who's devout to our lord mtl-sama i'd say there's no better mtls as all of them are good and created equal by our lord...
I don't know if you were asking me or FIEND, but I myself don't really remember much about it, but I did drop it around 30 chapters in for some reason. The premise seems nice, and people seem to like it so I'm definitely going to at least try it again.
Honestly the last 6 months the new apple beta translator built into safari does a darn good job I’m able to read most stuff without getting lost now
Is there anything that makes "You Plan to Kill Me With Meng" better than the rest of the Yaoi MTLs. I'm not super into heavy Yaoi romance in general but there are some that have have amazing plots and stories that I have enjoyed in the past. I haven't tried this novel specifically, but so many that I have tried aren't quite to my taste as I'm often not super interested in the romance portion. Do you think I would like this novel, or maybe do you have another one that might fit my taste better?
Hmmm~ if you’re not into the romance part much, then maybe skip this one. I’m not sure about other good MTLs, I’d have to think about it some more. Good luck on your search though!!
Wow, I am very uninformed in this area and would love to hear your thoughts! Do you not use specific MTL sites for a reason, or just prefer using apple's translator? Like does it produce a higher quality translation, and is it much work to use? I've never ventured off of using MTL sites but seems good to at least try.
From my experience over the years most mtl sites tend to use a not so great translator or aren’t great at editing so when they try to “clean it up” a lot is lost. Heck these days google translate isn’t so bad if you can handle the occasional name being like summer leaves, or a female being called he but then in the same sentance will have a phrase like she spoke disdainfully because that was how he was raised. I find it a lot easier to deal with than waiting weeks or years for a novel. I waited long enough for anime lol
Thanks for your insight. You've been reading for years so you're obviously passionate about what you read. You seem like you're willing to put in a bit of effort to make sure what you're reading is up to a good quality, but as an uninformed person, it seems to me like it takes significantly more effort to MTL yourself than to rely on MTL sites. I don't know how much effort it actually takes, but it seems daunting to try to learn when I have an easy option available that still makes me happy to spend my time on. As someone who doesn't use MTL sites, I would love to hear your thoughts on what makes the effort you go through worth it. If it's just to avoid waiting for very specific novels because you've already all the good quality easily accessible ones, then I think that it's very worth it to you, but it might not be worth it for me to try as I still have so much left to read on the MTL sites. If there is another reason, would you recommend me and others do try MTLing or does the reason just apply to your personal preferences?
Ahh it’s more a case of me reading everything interesting and needing more lol. Basically I only go for an mtl after a few chapters are translated first to see if I like it and how the words flow. If it’s not a lot of big words then it’s easier to mtl. As for you being a newer fan of the genres, I would suggest starting with a few of the bigger names titles that are finished personally I would recommend anything done by RWX and deathblade over at wuxiaworld as they have Ben top quality for years and tend to pick good titles coiling dragons and I Shall Seal the Heavens being two great ones . Since you’ve not been exposed to overly obnoxious amounts of cliche yet, I’d suggest checking out titles like emperors domination or Battle Through the Heavens. Hmm I’d also recommend soul land and Tales of Demons and Gods. As for up or Korean novels, there are a ton of them as well but I find they tend to be easier to drop . Given there’s a few that I’d recommend regardless like kumo desu, or the Legendary Moonlight Sculptor. once you get through those feel free to pm me for recommendations )
