I don't like children in rl, they make me unreasonably angry and annoyed just by virtue of presence, due to the short period I had to go to internship as a teacher at school, but novel lolis are cuter than shotas

As far as anime characters go, I tend to like the design of lolis more than shotas.

If you're talking about RL children though, then I think they're both very cute~

I dunno, I've known lots of utter twats as a kid. They only act cute and innocent when there's someone older like a teen or adult. Soon as it's just peers, it's bully time. Sure most kids aren't bad, but there's plenty of cunning little brats who take great joy in making other kids cry.

Also in response to OP, while I mostly prefer around my own age, lolis are cuter simply because they get cuter clothes.

Truth is that I like the character type, but I hate seeing them sexualized both explicitly and implicitly. There was a manga I read a few months ago that really kept making the shota MC have sex appeal. Like the creator was actually drawing this kid with extra details you would probably see in a hentai… and it wasn’t one at all. Idk, the moment I started getting reminded of Boku no Pico, I bailed.
