Recommendations Please please help recommend the best BLs you’ve ever read

Hi my friend is new to novelupdates and wants some good bl recommendations but I don’t read much of the genre He’s also pretty new to Asian BLs, he mostly reads fanfictions and wanted to try something new. Please help me find the best BLs to recommend him. He said he has no preference as long as it’s MxM, so it could be yaoi or shounen ai (although I think he prefers shounen ai)

 

I think The Founder of Diabolism is a pretty safe bet! It’s very popular and it’s really good!

 

Ennead's a manga, but it's my current favorite wonderful BL!!

I actually LOVE Founder of Diabolism but if he is a beginner to asian novels I would not recommend it as his first. There’s cultivation terms and references to a lot of tropes you don’t see in western media. I compiled a list that I think would be suitable for a beginner. I also tried to organize it from friendly to veteran but as a result the titles are from multiple genres.

11. Mo Dao Zu Shi/Founder of Diabolism (xianxia, mystery)
12. Heaven Official’s Blessing (xuanhuan)

The first few are comedy while the later titles gradually shift to more serious tones. They’re also all completed. Hope your friend enjoys them!

As a serious joke recommendation Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. The “how is this not a BL” novel lmao

 

I have a list where I go into detail about why I liked these stories enough to include them.

Probably save the xianxia stuff for later, though, since those tend to be harder to read if your friend isn't already familiar with Chinese culture and/or xianxia itself.

Oh, and since that list is for Chinese BLs only, I'll throw in a recommendation for Yes, No, or Maybe Half? It's licensed in English now, and it's probably one of the better Japanese novel BLs that has been.

 

Hi @Sniff, you can try my recommendation lists. I mostly love reading BL novels so there are lot of variety where you can perhaps find some to your liking and I also plan to add more once I've read through my "Next To Read" list.
