Anyone else get embarrassed when the MC does something embarrassing?

I always get embarrassed when the MC does something super embarrassing or cringey for some reason. I don't know if its just me. And then I stop reading or watching the book/anime with the super embarrassing MC for some time or I walk around my room for many minutes getting myself back into my zone until I can finally read or watch the book/anime again. I sometimes just bury my head under the pillow for an hour trying to wipe off the embarrassment I'm feeling too.

 

Yes, I've dropped many novels inadvertently due to second hand cringe.

 

I wouldn't say it affects me that far, but when the mc just does some completely unnecessary and idiotic thing(s) it does turn me off from reading more.

 

Yes, I always imagine myself in the place of the MC, and I have social anxiety. I've dropped many many novels because the authors keep humiliating their MCs.

 

Omg always, I couldn't even watch re:zero cause of that.The protagonist just had an incredible ability in being useless and annoying to an unbearable degree.

 

Lol. In every media ever, movies, cartoons, I can't bring myself to watch them embarrass themselves. I turn off the audio, look away, or walk around grinning (not happily just disturbed) at their cringiness.

 

Yup. I would stop reading, find a new book, then eventually forget that I read that cringey story ...

 

every time that happens i end up trying to skip through it hoping it gets better, but if it just keeps happening i just drop it because i can't take it

 

I don't have much problem with it if it is done well, then it can be funny or endearing.
Problem is usually when it is either done in a way that feel forced because the author couldn't think of anything else or when it is unintentional because the author screwed up.

 

Oh you don't know. I really wanna finish Re:Zero but I can't even get through the first season. Around episode 10 or 11 it gets SO cringy! I tried going through it like 3 times since the day it came out years ago, and I still can't do it.

 

.............Sometimes.......ok, it happens often..... But i'm pretty tolerant, so i can give it a few more tries before deciding to throw the towel.

 

Yeah if the secondhand embarrassment gets too bad then I just drop it bc the MC ain’t worth my time. But it’s normally the environment and plot that enables them so that also plays a part in whether or not I’ll drop a story

 

Yes , sometimes the cringe is too much and I’ll drop it . Chuuni characters give me so much second hand embarrassment.

 

Yup, I think it's called second hand embarrassment. I too have to take a break and calm myself to keep reading. If it is really bad I might have to take a day or two or more.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I am literally stuck on a chapter since last night due to the impending embarrassment. I've read 2 other books in between the start of the chapter and now.

 

I will only get truly embarassed when MC does something so stupid and uncharacteristic that you want to question the IQ of the author. I have come across many such MC, predominantly CN. As for when the MC does something embarassing like stupidly cringy self bragging, I stop reading then and there, and clear my browsing history.

 

Yeah, until now I'm stuck on episode 13 re:zero season 1 because the hurdle is too high

 

I have stopped watching anime altogether partly because of this reason. I am much more robust when I face this in my reading though.
