I want to get an e-reader cause nowadays I'm mostly reading either western books or light novels. I don't want to get a kindle if I can help it and something compatible with calibre would be great. If anyone has a suggestion, please drop them below.

well...yeh I guess. I mean I can convert to azw3 and mobi if needed, but I don't want to enter the amazon ecosystem. I wanna get an ebook reader rather than relying on my phones small screen. I don't like reading off my monitor either

Why not just buy a cheap tablet with an '.epub' File Reader App?

Or are you looking for that kind of smooth and paper-like screen?

tablets usually have shitty battery life...>.> though that might be cheaper. e-readers use e-ink so they're easier on the eyes and visible even outside with direct light

E-readers, at least where I live, are expensive. I also recommend just getting a cheap tablet and a power bank.

I read EPUBS exclusively on my Kobo Clara HD. It’s fairly cheap for an eReader, minimalistic, and doesn’t take any time at all to set up. I import books into it with Calibre, but it also works with its own Kobo store. I’ve had it for around a month now, and I haven’t run into any issues at all. I’m a very heavy reader and I’ve already clocked in about 72 hours on it, but I think that I’ve only had to charge it around 3 or 4 times from about 5% to full.

Some people might complain about the back that apparently catches a lot of dust, but I use mine with a nice sleep cover that covers the whole back so its been an absolute non-issue for me.

The selling point for me was really the size, it’s a little large for a pants or skirt pocket but I can slip it into my handbag or my coat pocket no issue. Really, it’s a lovely device! I love mine and highly recommend it.

I was looking at the kobo clara. some people had issues with wifi (a non-issue for me if I just use a cable to download from calibre). I wish these people would stop using micro-usb tho...usb-C all the way

Maybe the Kobo Libra H20 if you got money to spend. It has good battery which should last you at least 2 weeks, if you're a night reader, it has a light comfort mode which makes the screen have a yellow hue, if you want to use it while in a bath it's rated IPX8 making it water resistant, I'll never say something is water proof, you can also download books from Kobo's library, Google Play and the public library. It's a good choice but I'd rather use my phone. Oh, it also has a very crisp display that I like.

they can be used in any device tho
If you want to read a phone is just as good as a tablet. I have a pc tablet which works great specially with the stand I bought which has a small reading light so I don't bother the wife when she sleeps.

Great for reading 8000mah battery life not so much for gaming or other things.

Ehhh if you really want to splurge, try an iPad Pro. If you ain't looking to bankrupt yourself, try a Samsung Galaxy Tab Active Pro. Either that or a Fire HD 10 Tablet. I prefer Apple simple because its easier to find cases and accessories for since manufacturers don't have to cater to all the different hardware specifications that are offered by Android devices. That and I like my internet privacy.
