They're nice and all but when it comes down to if I would actually live in one of those... No. Also, wouldn't they die/wilt around Autumn or Winter?
Lol that video was so serious and dramatic but yes the mosquitos. I wonder if plants could be modified to repel mosquitos or some spray could be put on those plants periodically with proper maintenance? It’d seem like a cool idea otherwise I think. Just needs to be maintained properly
Unless they specifically designed to be like that do not try do that to your home. Those growths keeps both waters, fungus/molds, in addition to their invasive roots. All three of which that are notorious in wearing down buildings. We even have coatings or paints specifically made to have herbicides property. Nope it's a dumb idea. Living plants need waters and minerals while they shed leaves regularly. How much energy and water you'd waste everyday as in pumping them upwards to keep them alive ? What about the fire hazards from dried leaves ? And then there's the matter that living plants growths that are notorious in ruining buildings.
That's one of the key selling points for these set ups. During the hot season, the house is kept cool by being shaded. Then when it gets cold, with all of the leaves gone, the house can be heated by the sun.
Can I just say that I'm genuinely impressed with all the building science knowledge here from a good number of people? Not sure if I'm stereotyping ... I was just as amazed when on a competitively multiplayer game last week. A bunch of players were talking about the stock market and their portfolio
It looks good on the eyes but doesn't sound great to live in. I'm afraid of insects. Also, it looks like a headache to take care of.
Partially covered, sure. Fully covered like that & I'll be wondering how high the building's repair/maintenance bill might cost
