I've recently had a particularly bad flu in which I sounded like barry white for one week and then this week lost my sense of smell.

It's absolutely horrible! I think I'd rather lose a few fingers than my sense of smell!

I live in new zealand, far from any of the big cities. You need not worry.

In my case losing sense of smell didn't effect me much, and I don't want to lose fingers, I have a lot of hopes focused on them

I’d prefer to lose my sense of smell… My fingers are of higher utility. But really I’d rather not actually have to ever make that choice coz I quite enjoy fragrances too, of appetising food in particular.

One time, I cought a bad cold and after that I lost my sense of smell for more than a year (it was half a year before the first case of covid in world so it was just a horrible cold)
It was so sad you know! I couldn't smell any flower or any food or even the smell of food burning.
You wouldn't know how happy I was when after more than one year I told my mom I smell burn! And she said you really smelled it?

    So I would choose neither!

Fingers because smell is needed for memory

My god! I hope I don't have what you have and get my smell back after a week or two.

My sense of smell is already pretty bad. I can't smell milk boiling over right next to the room and the smell of various completely different foods seem the same to me. So yeah, I'd rather lose my sense of smell.

Not to scare you or anything, but just because you're far from big cities, doesn't means the viruses can't travel there (delivery stuffs, families/friends who are carriers w/o syptoms)
But let's hope it's just a common flu
Also losing sense of smell & taste from both Covid & flu are temporary, don't need to be so dramatic as cutting your fingers off (different case if it's frostbite)

I got covid a few months ago and lost my sense of smell (still had taste, though). Barely even noticed it. The main difference was that food had slightly less flavor, but I was eating military cooking at the time so there wasn't much flavor to lose, lmao.

Losing three finger, on the other hand (heh), sounds horrible. You won't be able to handle most instruments, work tools, etc. with that hand. Typing on a keyboard would become a chore. It honestly sounds horrible.

Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, I would probably prefer to lose both smell and taste to losing three fingers.

True but it is a bit unlikely, either way I did get a covid test today with the swab up the nose.

I just recovered from anosmia last week. In those few days where I couldn't smell or taste anything, I don't think it's that bad. I can't handle sour food at all but during that time, I chewed on lemon slices like candies. I can't imagine losing my fingers, my work efficiency would be greatly reduced.

    I hope so too!
Don't worry, I had a weak sense of smell from the beginning so maybe that was the reason.

Thanks. I did use a steroid nasal spray before losing my sense of smell so I'll stop using that.

Let's hope it came back negative
TBH though I don't really trust the nose swab, preferred doing it both w/ the throat one after some drama that happened to my family due to Covid panic last April/May

I can live with no sense of smell but i would rather die without my sense of humor. Okay on serious note I'll keep them fingers.
