Have you read a novel then visualize the characters on how they look like then saw the illustration or adaptations to other media and they are vastly different from what you imagine. It is not limited to eastern or asian. Every novel.
Actually, opposite. I saw the adaptation into movie first, then read the book, was surprised to hear that a character wasn't black. lol (Talking about Percy Jackson, the character Grover.)
THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THIS HAPPENED HHHH I've lost count since of how common this is to me. Especially when I'd visualize since there was no character description at the beginning only to find out at chapter 178 they look completely different from my imagination
Though I didn't mind in that particular movie. He was quite possibly the only good thing about the whole godawful movie. (No, not because he's black. It's cause he was hilarious. In the books he wasn't as funny, he was more like Shaggy from Scooby Doo if I remember correctly. I liked his movie personality better.)
Ya, that movie was a horrible adaption. There is so little of the book left it is not funny. And he was the best cast member of the movie.
Yea, the author was disappointed with it too, they ignored everything he said and did everything their own way. But thankfully a new tv series is coming out which is being properly overlooked by Rick Riordan himself. Hope it isn't a disappointment also. The books were my childhood, don't want to see it get butchered again.
