I've been wondering if I'm the only one to feel like this: don't you feel like it's unfair that Maxi has so many male friends and handsome pursuers and Riftan only has man around him and terrible woman after him? I remember if bothered me so much by the time I read it that I rewrote a lot of parts of the story as a fanfic, including this female character that would've been Riftan's friend for years before he met grown up Maxi (quite an interesting character, that actually had some ... chemicals... but they got a friendzone bond and turned it into a fraternal love). Anyway I just wanted to know if you feel the same. It kind of offends me that the only strong woman that shows in the book besides Maxi and has some contact with Riftan has this power only because she's the daughter of the king and even then, if you read Riftan POV, you can see she's kind of bleh.
Yes yes thats right, and then sir Aren came and introduced himself to Maxi, kissing her hand. Riftan was ultra jealous, that chapter which has been spoiled here already.
For the first fluff moment: Maxi wanted to sleep next to Sidina who was still knocked out from the battle. But Riftan pulled her aside and told her to lie down next to him. They just had an argument earlier so she was still mad at him but at the same time she wanted to be close to him. So as a compromise, she turned her back on him stared at the walls of the cave instead. Riftan took his armour off and spooned her to keep her warm and Maxi teared up because she still longed for him deeply. Nothing else happened though and Sidina woke up the next morning. For the second fluff moment: Maxi got out of the warm bath and put her clothes on quickly before her body became cold at the same time, it started snowing yet again. She was disappointed because there was no way for her to be warm since the fire mana stone she had was already depleted of its magic. She was shivering and looking around to see where to go when she felt something warm and heavy come over her shoulders. When she looked up, it was Riftan who had put a cloak around her shoulders. He helped her put the hood on and adjusted the cloak properly so it would cover her well and he brought her to where the other wizards were. On the way there Max was sticking close to Riftan and breathing in his scent and she was dreaming so hard about intimate moments with him that she got flustered and she wanted Riftan and her to be alone but instead he left her with the other wizards and left.
well, hello there my fellow noblewoman. please, be my guest. i will ask Rudis to prepare a room for you. also a refreshment to acompany the tea. and for dinner, i'll ask rodrigo to prepare some delicious oakley fish. but... but.... i have to go home to my own castle. my laundry is waiting for me.... .
i also feel this way to be fair i want maxi to receive support from a lot of people. i like the idea of the RDK treating her like she's their queen or muse and protecting her fiercely i also don't mind people gushing over her beauty and talents since she's been called worthless and ugly all her life. i just hope she stops accusing riftan of being unfaithful or letting the jealousy take over her. riftan is also insanely jealous but what irks me is sometimes she makes him jealous on purpose (like with sir aren) which is kinda sad since riftan literally can't find any other woman attractive except for her both of them struggle with an inferiority complex though and they think the other is too good for them, so maybe that's where the anxiety and jealousy is stemming from. riftan also has a dozen women trying to get a piece of that beefcake so that's a little fair. but the ones pursuing riftan often have vain and selfish reasons on why they want him, plus he shuts them down since riftan is cold and blunt. maxi, however, has a stronger emotional connection with other men. she's kind and soft and people find her cute. hebaron, yulixion, garrow, elliot, and even uslin think of her fondly which is more dangerous than just sexual desires. all in all i think it's a little unfair but not that unfair and both of them are insanely jealous people. i wish they would just assure each other that they're both crazy for only one person
Yes! I highly avoid criticizing Maxi, because she has all right of being flawed, since she had someone messing with her head since she was born, but those things are really hard to let slip... The guilt tripping she puts Riftan's in sometimes, the proposital jealousy, the fact that she notices handsome men in places and situations that "GOD, PLEASE,DON'T!", her drinking habit (that wouldn't really be a problem if she was smart enough to know when enough is enough)... Someone here once sair that it's unfair how Riftain is always willing to bend his back for her, accepting to endure all kind of pain to please her. I hope the writer works on fixing it, 'cause she clearly learned not to do the same, she learned to measure when the most important thing is to please him or make sure they'll have more time together to please each other. PS: I like Maxi, don't bite me!
That's Right Maxi !! - - NEVER stop arguing just because Riftan might have a point! Just keep going at it! That bit is priceless. M LOVE your fantasy castle and meeting for tea and sweets!!!! I too, have laundry waiting. Bummer! Reality is such a pain in the ass sometimes!!

The strongest rival against Maxi is still Princess Agnes. Although Riftan clearly shows zero love interest in her but I think she's still a wonderful love rival and woman around Riftan. Her high born status, her magic offence, wealth and position, and even her children is the direct heir to the throne. In many ways, Agnes just really is a wonderful candidate. She's still single too! I hope nothing bad happens... If the King still has plans to pair them together I'll go burn down that kingdom
Riftan is gorgeous but beauty does not mean high-status women would be forward to accept a lowborn. Riftan in UTO universe is at a disadvantage of being illegitimate, mixed-race, and cherry on top from a poor peasant family. That's his flaw in the story. If maxi wasn't a shame for her Duke father who acted with malice to get rid of her, regardless of how good Riftan was he would have never got maxi. As pointed by Princess Agnes the king wanted their marriage for political reasons, to keep Riftan loyal to Royal family. Women do love his company even Rosetta loved him for his knightly manner and looks, and noblewomen flirted with him but for a love story a woman who knew him inside out, accept him with flaws was needed. Then I would strongly say that women deserved him not maxi. Riftan has been independent when he was a kid, he found solace in maxi, didn't need a person before maxi so why now when he is traveling with mercenaries and fighting wars. I doubt many good women went on war or were talented as maxi and other healers and wizards. He's in a masculine field of work and surrounded by men. Riftan killed all emotions when he ran away. He had no plan he just followed what life offered. As much as he denied the memory of that love was in him, deep down he knew he can hide it but he could never come to stop loving and longing for her. Even when he knew couldn't get her he loved her. It was maxi's loneliness, familiar pain, and urge for life that brought them close. Without a word he understood they were going through the same circumstances. The Arthor hinted they were meant to be from the very first time they met, strangers connect by loneliness. Longing to see the other when they could. Maxi even as a 6 yr old kid found where Riftan worked to give him the flower crown. What noble would do that, when a poor peasant saved her would she have cared? Why her pain and loneliness, her safety mattered to a 12 yr old boy. Why couldn't he let her be was even beyond him. When Riftan saw maxi he didn't see her richness, he saw her loneliness and need for a hug. No wonder when he was so deeply connected to her no other woman touched his soul. Riftan has never opened up to anyone not even Ruth with whom he's been for the longest let alone a woman to come close and know him. Men are rarely discreet to one woman most times, this story is captive as it evokes the possibilities of a man submitting himself to one woman. I wish it stays that way. I don't see Riftan need anyone even when he's alone. Maxi's absence never demanded a new love for him (I love that). I feel the same when you love someone whether they are with you or not, whether you can get that person in your life or not, just loving that one person is enough. The Author would have claimed a lie if Riftan ever felt anything even a slight slip of heart for anyone other than maxi. For Riftan knows love when he saw that little girl. It would be unfair if anyone else meant love to him.
Maxi recalls Rosetta blushing when she sees Riftan in the banquet arranged by the Duke. Maxi thinks to herself that even a proud Noble women like Rosetta who is a beauty queen, who dispises of Riftan being mixed and low born blushes when he passes by. It's in the initial chapters when she is in Antol, touring the castle where Riftan escorts her and says he's got no experience with women and does not know how to treat them.
I'm not a maxi fan. Considering the Noval to be women-centric I do feel Riftan gets consolation credit all the time. If UTO is the tale of Maxi evolving as a strong person after years of abuse. It should also be a Noval where Maxi should sometimes just cool down and just love, as Riftan is the one who helped her be the best version of her. I kind of find her Noble pride and righteousness come between her heart and brain at times. Riftan deserves blind love at times, that's all I'm saying
I agree with your POV!!!! Is not that I don’t like Maxi getting attention, I honestly like when she does and gets Riftan jealous but I also wish there would be an actual love rival for Maxi because I mean, HE IS SO HOT and is just an awesome knight, u know, all powerful n stuff Not that I wish Maxi to suffer, but this man deserves more admiration from an actually nice woman, not like Agnes because I think she shares more like a friendship and admiration for his skills, but someone beautiful that is also nice lol just to add some action to the story, just saying BUT of course I don’t intend for Riftan to be into her, but just to be a threat to Maxi
I totally get that. In this century you and I can never comprehend a such being to exists. But I believe love does that to one. love makes you all that Riftan is I see maxi's love as a reaction to the true love of Riftan. I love this tale as the Author has been real and honest to the feeling.
hahahaha love it! Specially when knowing he is right but of course she cannot throw herself under the bridge hahahahah She must also show him who’s boss, I mean, this is like a fight to show who cares more for the other lol
